2002 Game Recaps November 3, 2002 UC IRVINE BEATS PACIFIC 2-1 Irvine, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (8-10-1, 5-3-1) defeated the Pacific Tigers (10-7-2, 2-5-2) by a score of 2-1. Senior Sara Henderson (Dove Canyon/Santa Margarita HS) scored her second her second goal of the season just over a minute into the match at the 1:03 mark of the first half. Henderson, playing in her last game as an Anteater had a total of three shots on the afternoon and scored the goal on a corner kick. Pacific tied the match at 1-1 in the 26th minute on a goal by Maggie Barsotti. Sophomore Tara Weldon (Los Angeles/Immaculate Heart HS) headed in her first goal of the season off of a cross by Hayley McNallan (Tacoma, WA/Curtis HS) at the 61:47 mark of the second half to win the game for the Anteaters. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Swancutt (Simi Valley HS), also in her last game as an Anteater, earned three saves on the afternoon. Seniors Robyn Piotrowski (San Dimas HS), Gina Hintz (Lake Forest/El Toro HS) and Brittny Zimmerman (La Canada HS) also suited up for UC Irvine for the last time. November 1, 2002 UC IRVINE FALLS TO CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE 2-1 IN OT Irvine, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (7-10-1, 4-3-1) lost to the Cal State Northridge Matadors (3-13-1, 2-5-1) by a score of 2-1 in overtime. Senior Sara Henderson (Dove Canyon/Santa Margarita HS) scored her first goal of the season at the 65:19 mark of the second half with Hayley McNallan (Tacoma, WA/Curtis HS) picking up the assist. With just under six minutes remaining in the second half Leah Sims tied the game at 1-1 with a goal at the 84:06 mark. Shannon DeVos and Leila Pate earned assists on the goal. The teams then went into overtime where the Matadors won it on a goal by Melissa Cleal 4:40 seconds into the overtime period with an assist to DeVos. Goalkeeper Karen Comstock came off the bench for the Matadors and had nine saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) had three saves for the Anteaters. October 31, 2002 UC IRVINE FALLS TO SAN DIEGO 5-0 Irvine, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (7-9-1) lost to the San Diego Toreros (10-6-2) by a score of 5-0 at Anteater Stadium. Val Strocco got on the board first for USD with a goal at the 9:30 mark of the first half. Brooke Roby earned an assist on the goal. Brenna Mullen made it 2-0 at the 28:25 mark of an assist from Strocco. Lee Ann Klopschinski scored at the 30:30 mark off a corner kick by Colleen Fogarty. Klopschinski scored again on a breakaway at the 81:43 mark with assists to Alexis Obeji and Michelle Rowe. Michelle Rowe scored the final goal at the 85:18 off another corner kick by Fogarty. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Swancutt (Simi Valley HS) had three saves on the night for the Anteaters. Goalkeeper Natalie Bobbit earned the shut out for the Toreros. Ocober 25, 2002 UC IRVINE SHUTS OUT CAL POLY 2-0 San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (7-8-1, 4-2-1) shut out the Cal Poly Mustangs (11-6-0, 5-1-0) by a score of 2-0 in San Luis Obispo. The loss is the first of the season in the Big West for the Mustangs. Junior Caroline Kabe (Palos Verdes Estates/Peninsula HS) knocked in her fourth goal of the season for the gamewinner at the 22:53 mark of the first half. Hayley McNallan (Tacoma, WA/Curtis HS) earned the assist on Kabe's goal. Caroline Kabe would assist freshman Kim Lloyd (Monrovia HS) on the Anteater's second goal at the 56:39 mark. Lloyd's goal was the third of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) notched her third shut out of the season while earning 11 saves on the afternoon. October 25, 2002 UC IRVINE LOSES TO UC SANTA BARBARA 3-1 Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (6-8-1, 3-2-1) lost to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (11-3-2, 4-0-1) by a score of 3-1 in Santa Barbara. Midfielder Krystal Sandza scored at the 25:03 mark in the first half to give UCSB a 1-0 lead. Emilee Schwimmer assisted Sandza on the goal. Junior Hayley McNallan (Tacoma, WA/Curtis HS) scored her sixth goal of the season at the 38:39 mark. Alma Martinez put UCSB back on top with a goal at the 41:59 mark with an assist by Sandza. Jennifer Borchich scored the third and final goal for the Gauchos in the 80th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) had five saves on the night. October 20, 2002 UC IRVINE FALLS TO CAL STATE FULLERTON 6-1 Irvine, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (6-7-1, 3-1-1) lost to the Cal State Fullerton Titans (11-2- 1, 5-1-0) by a score of 6-1 at Anteater Stadium. The Titans got on the board first with a goal by Ashley O'Brien at the 10:28 mark. Lindsey Glick scored the eventual gamewinner for the Titans at the 25:47 mark. Kellie Cox assisted Glick on the goal. Freshman Kim Lloyd (Monrovia HS) scored her second goal of the season less than a minute later at the 26:39 mark to bring the Anteaters within one goal. Caroline Kabe (Palos Verdes Estates/Peninsula HS) got the assist on the goal. The game was 2-1 in favor of the Titans at the half. Erica Pryor scored the third goal of the afternoon for Fullerton at the 50:35 mark. Erica Jacalone headed one in at the 71:12 mark to put the Titans up 4-1. Kandace Wilson scored on a breakaway at 82:48. Desiree Flint knocked the final goal of the afternoon in with just over two minutes left at 87:50. October 18, 2002 UC IRVINE SHUTS OUT UC RIVERSIDE 1-0 Irvine, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters (6-6-1, 3-0-1) shut out the UC Riverside Highlanders (9-5- 1, 3-1-1) 1-0 at Anteater Stadium. The lone goal of the game came at the 67:24 mark in the second half by freshman Tiffany Scheibley (San Jose/Santa Teresa HS). It was the first goal of her career as an Anteater. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) earned her second shut out of the season with two saves on the night. UCI out shot the Highlanders 18-6. Goalkeeper Kristen Cocks had nine saves on the night for UCR. October 13, 2002 UC IRVINE EARNS A DRAW WITH LONG BEACH STATE 1-1 Long Beach, Calif. -- UC Irvine (5-6-1, 2-0-1) tied Long Beach State (3-7-4, 1-0-2) 1-1 in a match in Long Beach. In the first half each team was unable to get the ball in the net with goalkeeper Chelseas McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) earning all three of her saves on the day in the opening half. Hayley McNallan (Tacoma, WA/Curtis HS) broke the scoreless tie at the 56:12 mark with her fifth goal of the season with an assist from Laci Fults (Lancaster HS) who earned her first career point as an Anteater. Allison Wiegand tied the game for Long Beach State with a goal at the 69:43 mark with an assist from Alexandra Rowinski. The Anteaters, playing the final 10 minutes of regulation and both overtime periods with 10 players, had five total shots in the overtimes while the 49ers had zero shots in the extra periods. October 10, 2002 UC IRVINE FALLS TO LMU 1-0 Los Angeles -- The UC Irvine Anteaters (5-6-0, 2-0-0) lost to the Loyola Marymount Lions in a non-conference match by a score of 1-0 at Sullivan Field. LMU scored at the 5:26 mark of the first half with a goal by Kellie Schroeder with an assist to Myka Peck. LMU improves to 7-3-2 on the season with the win. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Swancutt (Simi Valley HS) was in the net for the Anteaters and had a pair of saves on the night. The Anteaters will return to Big West action on Sunday with a match against Long Beach State at 1:00 P.M. in Long Beach. October 6, 2002 UC IRVINE SHUTS OUT UTAH STATE 1-0 Logan, Utah -- The UC Irvine Anteaters (5-5-0, 2-0-0) shut out the Utah State Aggies (6-5-2, 0-2- 0) by a score of 1-0 in Logan, Utah. Caroline Kabe (Palos Verdes Estates/Peninsula HS) scored on her second penalty kick of the weekend and third of the season to put the 'Eaters on top at the 42:02 mark of the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McCarthy (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) earned her first solo shut out of her career in the match with five saves on the afternoon. UCI out shot the Aggies 9-5. October 4, 2002 ANTEATERS TOP IDAHO 2-1 IN BIG WEST OPENER Moscow, Idaho -- The UC Irvine Anteaters (4-5-0, 1-0-0) defeated the Idaho Vandals (2-6-2, 0-1- 0) 2-1 in Moscow, Idaho.
