Page 2 St. Lambert Parish 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time Our pastor, Father Simon is retiring and will be leaving us by the end of the month. As much as we would like to send him off in a manner that expresses how much we care, what he has meant to us, and how much we will miss him, he has requested that we do something short and simple.

So, on the weekend of Father's Day (how appropriate is that) following every Holy Mass (including the Saturday Vigil Holy Mass), we are invited to go downstairs to Trainor Hall and enjoy some coffee and cupcakes with him. At that time you will be able to show your appreciation in a more personal and tangible way.

However, in order to accommodate parking and getting ready for the next Holy Mass, we ask that you do not remain past 30 MINUTES.

Donations of food will be accepted as long as they are FINGER FOOD. Please contact Margarita or Vic. Thank You.)

Catholic Charities in Des Plaines offers free suppers to the community every Tuesday and Thursday evening of the year. We have a number of open dates starting in July, 2021 for which we’re seeking generous supper sponsors.

Sponsorship involves either ordering and covering the cost of the food, typically ordered from a restaurant, or reimbursing us for ordering food ourselves. Sponsors also are welcome to provide volunteers here at 1717 E. Rand Rd., Des Plaines, to help package and distribute the suppers.

Due to COVID-19, we have seen an increase in the number of clients who come to our suppers. We ask that sponsors provide enough meals to feed 120 clients. We can offer suggestions on restaurants to contract with. Costs typically range from $250 to $600.

If you have questions or wish to discuss this further, please contact me or Adriana Kelly, the North regional director 847-376-2121, [email protected] or Rose Marie Lesniak-Mendez, the Northwest regional director 847-376-2118, [email protected].

Without sponsors we would not be able to offer this service needed by so many. Thank you for your consideration.

Saint Albert Chmielowski’s Story

Born in Igolomia near Kraków as the eldest of four children in a wealthy family, he was christened Adam. During the 1864 revolt against Czar Alexander III, Adam’s wounds forced the amputation of his left leg.

His great talent for painting led to studies in , Munich, and Paris. Adam returned to Kraków and became a Secular Franciscan. In 1888, when he founded the Brothers of the Third Order of Saint Francis, Servants to the Poor, he took the name Albert. They worked primarily with the homeless, depending completely on alms while serving the needy regardless of age, religion, or politics. A community of was established later.

Pope John Paul II beatified Albert in 1983, and canonized him six years later. His liturgical feast is celebrated on June 17. Reflection

Reflecting on his own priestly vocation, Pope John Paul II wrote in 1996 that Albert had played a role in its formation “because I found in him a real spiritual support and example in leaving behind the world of art, literature, and the theater, and in making the radical choice of a vocation to the priesthood” (Gift and Mystery: On the Fiftieth Anniversary of My Priestly Ordination). As a young priest, Karol Wojtyla repaid his debt of gratitude by writing The Brother of Our God, a play about Brother Albert’s life. Page 6 St. Lambert Parish 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
