  • Giants Overpower Royals to Win World Series Magical Bumgarner Joins World Series Legends
Sports43 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2014 Giants overpower Royals to win World Series Magical Bumgarner joins World Series legends Hamilton seeks to divert attention from problems AUSTIN: World championship leader Lewis Hamilton will bid to divert attention from Formula One’s looming financial crisis by seeking his fifth consecutive race win at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. The 29- year-old Briton leads Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg of Germany by 17 points with three races remaining, and 100 points avail- able, as he sets himself to claim his 10th win of the season at the Circuit of the Americas. After a tense, close and often acrimonious struggle with Rosberg, Hamilton knows he cannot relax, notably because next month’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is worth double points. That means Rosberg will retain a mathematical title chance if he is within 50 points of the Englishman after the next two races in America and Brazil. Hamilton came away from the Russian Grand Prix on October 12 with 291 points to Rosberg’s 274. Rosberg has no intention of giving up and KANSAS CITY: San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner (right) gets a hug from Pablo Sandoval as Bumgarner any fans disgruntled at the absences of the won the MVP trophy after their 3-2 win against the Kansas City Royals in Game 7 of baseball’s World Series on Wednesday, Oct Marussia and Caterham teams from the grid 29, 2014. —AP will at least be assured of a potentially fero- cious scrap for glory at the front of Sunday’s KANSAS CITY: A giant, indeed.

  • The Year of TEAM As We Close out 2017 and Look Ahead to 2018, We Want to Thank You for Your Support of “C” You in the Major Leagues
“Building tomorrow’s leaders through America’s pastime.” 2017 Year In Review — The Year of TEAM As we close out 2017 and look ahead to 2018, we want to thank you for your support of “C” You In The Major Leagues. Whether you’ve donated your money or your time, you’ve been vital to changing lives in Kansas City in 2017. You’ve undoubtedly heard the acronym TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More. Usually TEAM is preached by countless coaches across the country, but away from sports, perhaps nowhere is that acronym more evident and true than in the nonprofit world. Lives cannot change without all of us working together. One of the most exciting things in 2017 came in September when we made a grant that put us over the $500,000 mark. It’s incredibly humbling to think that we — all of us — have been able to grant more than $500,000 to 45 organizations since CYITML started in 2014. Later in this program you’ll be able to see a list of those organizations and causes but of those 45, 32 have directly helped folks in our community. Our hope is that by January 2020, with your help, we will pass $1 million in grants. What an incredible impact that will have in Kansas City! At the same time, however, during the past couple years, as we’ve researched the needs of people in underserved areas of Kansas City, we’ve honed our focus even more. Besides making grants, we’re doing what we can with our own programming to reach people at a younger age to give hope, encouragement, and character-building leadership messages.
