What is Rachel’s Challenge’s goal? Rachel’s Challenge is an organization that travels the whole coun- try and goes to schools and communities to spread Rachel’s positive message. The organization has a few things that YOU can do this week (or your whole life) to spread kindness. 1 The HMS Stinger Winter Edition 2016 What is Chain Links? Chain links is a non-profit club at our school devoted to helping others and our school. I just so happen to be a member, so I was invited to the Friends of Rachel Training. Chain Links is the same thing, but with a different name. At the training we brainstormed things we can do around the school, shared about things Rachel’s Challenge reminded us of, did skits, and shared things we don’t want in HMS. Some of these things include hate, bullying, violence, immaturity, profanities, cursing and many others. These are also things Chain Links enforce not to happen. Chain Links is a fabulous club and I’m thrilled to be in the link! The Chain Links recently donated shoe boxes filled with toiletries, toys, snacks, art supplies, etc. to those in need through Operation Christmas Child. 2 The HMS Stinger Winter Edition 2016 Operation: Repeat By Tommy Maroon October 25th, 2016. The start of a Cleveland Cavaliers repeat? Probably. If you missed it, the Cavs became the first team to win the Finals after falling in a 3-1 deficit to the “73-9” Golden State Warriors. It was the city’s first championship since 1964 and the team’s first ever. The Cavs should be confident for this season and I don’t blame them. Here’s why… LeBron, Kyrie and Kevin Love have quickly become the most feared big three since join- ing in 2014. Did I forget J.R. Smith? Ever since coming to Cleveland midway through the 2014-15 season, he’s turned these set of three amigos, to four horsemen. Tristan Thomp- son is a terrific center and puts the icing on the cake. There’s more than that to the Cavs, you know. Here’s the rest… Iman Shumpert, Dahntay Jones and Richard Jefferson are some of the best sixth men in the league. Heck, so good, they’d be starters, if they weren’t in Cleveland. Jordan McRae, Channing Frye and James Jones are also terrific guys to use off the bench and can deliver with the game on the line. They also got new additions to the team, like Mike Dunleavy and Chris Andersen. Oh, did I forget mastermind Ty Lue. He made his debut as coach in early- 2016, and five months later, the Cavs were 2016 NBA Finals Champions!!!!!!!!!!!! Teams that will give the Cavs a hard time are quite rare, but there are three teams that’ll give the Cavs a challenge this season. The LA Clippers with CP3 (Chris Paul) and Blake Griffin, the OKC Thunder with Russell Westbrook and the San Antonio Spurs with Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard. I would say the Warriors, but they are no match for the Cavs. LeBron, Kyrie, K-Love and J.R. could hammer “Curry”, “KD” and “Klay Thompson”. I’m thinking a repeat for the Cavs. If there’s a team that many people say could beat 3 The HMS Stinger Winter Edition 2016 Advice Column by Riley Blueter and Hailey Kelps Dear Advice Columnists, Dear Friendship Troubles, I have made a lot of friends at the middle First of all, insist to friend B that maybe school, especially my three besties. I am here to say that the movie, although very different from the book, was still very good. For those of you that do not know the story, it’s about a boy named Jacob who, after the death of his grandfather, goes to the children’s home his grandfather told many stories about. On this journey, he meets “peculiar” children, or kids that can do things that nobody else can do, such as turn invisible or bring dead people to life. The book and the movie both follow the same plotline mainly, but there were multiple small altera- tions along the way. For starters, Olive and Emma’s peculiarities were switched, and now Olive’s the one who can make fire and Emma’s the one who can fly. I’m sure anyone who read the books will know that the date of the time loop was September 3rd, 1940, but in the movie, they made it the same date, but in 1943! Also, the monster in disguise, Dr. Golan, is a woman in the movie, for absolutely no reason. However, despite the multiple differences, it was still an amazing movie! I was afraid they might leave out a character or two, but no, every- one was kept in, and a few more were even added! The costumes were amazing, along with the flawless mix between animation and live action. The personalities of the peculiars were true to the book, and, as expected from a Tim Burton movie, it was delightfully creepy. I give it 9 out of 10 stars, and that’s only for being so different from the book. If you have the chance, I strongly recommend that you go to see Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. 5 The HMS Stinger Winter Edition 2016 U.S. President Barack Obama said Tuesday the nation is relying on private industry to find ways to make the "giant leap" to Mars, with human missions on the horizon by the 2030s."We have set a clear goal vital to the next chapter of America's story in space: sending humans to Mars by the 2030s and returning them safely to Earth, with the ultimate ambition to one day remain there for an extended time," Obama wrote in an essay posted by CNN."These missions will teach us how humans can live far from Earth – something we'll need for the long journey to Mars." n August, NASA announced that six companies had been selected to work on deep I s pace habitats, and would receive a combined amount of $65 million over the next two years.
