What is Chain Links? Chain links is a non-profit club at our school devoted to helping others and our school. I just so happen to be a member, so I was invited to the Friends of Rachel Training. Chain Links is the same thing, but with a different name. At the training we brainstormed things we can do around the school, shared about things Rachel’s Challenge reminded us of, did skits, and shared things we don’t want in HMS. Some of these things include hate, bullying, violence, immaturity, profanities, cursing and many others. These are also things Chain Links enforce not to happen. Chain Links is a fabulous club and

I’m thrilled to be in the link! The Chain Links recently donated shoe boxes filled with toiletries, toys, snacks, art supplies, etc. to those in need through Operation Christmas Child.

Operation: Repeat By Tommy Maroon October 25th, 2016. The start of a Cleveland Cavaliers repeat? Probably. If you missed it, the Cavs became the first team to win the Finals after falling in a 3-1 deficit to the “73-9” Golden State Warriors. It was the city’s first championship since 1964 and the team’s first ever. The Cavs should be confident for this season and I don’t blame them. Here’s why… LeBron, Kyrie and Kevin Love have quickly become the most feared big three since join- ing in 2014. Did I forget J.R. Smith? Ever since coming to Cleveland midway through the 2014-15 season, he’s turned these set of three amigos, to four horsemen. Tristan Thomp- son is a terrific center and puts the icing on the cake. There’s more than that to the Cavs, you know. Here’s the rest… Iman Shumpert, Dahntay Jones and Richard Jefferson are some of sixth men in the league. Heck, so good, they’d be starters, if they weren’t in Cleveland. Jordan McRae, Channing Frye and James Jones are also terrific guys to use off the bench and can deliver with the game on the line. They also got new additions to the team, like Mike Dunleavy and Chris Andersen. Oh, did I forget mastermind Ty Lue. He made his debut as coach in early- 2016, and five months later, the Cavs were 2016 NBA Finals Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Teams that will give the Cavs a hard time are quite rare, but there are three teams that’ll give the Cavs a challenge this season. The LA Clippers with CP3 (Chris Paul) and Blake Griffin, the OKC Thunder with Russell Westbrook and the San Antonio Spurs with Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard. I would say the Warriors, but they are no match for the Cavs. LeBron, Kyrie, K-Love and J.R. could hammer “Curry”, “KD” and “Klay Thompson”.

I’m thinking a repeat for the Cavs. If there’s a team that many people say could beat

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children By Isabelle George

Many of you have heard of the recent movie, “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children”, or may- be even read the book. I am here to say that the movie, although very different from the book, was still very good. For those of you that do not know the story, it’s about a boy named Jacob who, after the death of his grandfather, goes to the children’s home his grandfather told many stories about. On this journey, he meets “peculiar” children, or kids that can do things that nobody else can do, such as turn invisible or bring dead people to life. The book and the movie both follow the same plotline mainly, but there were multiple small altera- tions along the way. For starters, Olive and Emma’s peculiarities were switched, and now Olive’s the one who can make fire and Emma’s the one who can fly. I’m sure anyone who read the books will know that the date of the time loop was September 3rd, 1940, but in the movie, they made it the same date, but in 1943! Also, the monster in disguise, Dr. Golan, is a woman in the movie, for absolutely no reason. However, despite the multiple differences, it was still an amazing movie! I was afraid they might leave out a character or two, but no, every- one was kept in, and a few more were even added! The costumes were amazing, along with the flawless mix between animation and live action. The personalities of the peculiars were true to the book, and, as expected from a Tim Burton movie, it was delightfully creepy. I give it 9 out of 10 stars, and that’s only for being so different from the book. If you have the chance, I strongly recommend that you go to see Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

U.S. President Barack Obama said Tuesday the nation is relying on private industry to find ways to make the "giant leap" to Mars, with human missions on the horizon by the 2030s."We have set a clear goal vital to the next chapter of America's story in space: sending humans to Mars by the 2030s and returning them safely to Earth, with the ultimate ambition to one day remain there for an extended time," Obama wrote in an essay posted by CNN."These missions will teach us how humans can live far from Earth – something we'll need for the long journey to Mars." n August, NASA announced that six companies had been selected to work on deep I s pace habitats, and would receive a combined amount of $65 million over the next two years. The is- sue of getting enough food and water into space to feed astronauts on a months-or years-long mission to deep space has also been a key logistical problem, and little research has been done to show how this might work. "Getting there will take a giant leap," said Obama , alluding to words spoken July 21,1969, by astronaut Neil Armstrong as he walked on the Moon. ("That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.")A second element of Obama's plan involves encouraging commercial companies to use the International Space Station, which circles the planet in low- Earth orbit, about 250 miles (400 kilometers) high.A recently installed docking adapter will allow more companies to park their spaceships at the orbiting outpost, a global collaboration that in- cludes the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan and Canada.

Veteran’s Day by Lia Aceto

I wanted to write an article about Veteran’s Day because it’s coming up and they deserve to be recognized. I don’t know much about wars in the past, and even what’s going on now, but one thing I know is, that Veterans are the most amazing people in the world. Veterans have fought, and are still fighting, for peace, freedom, our beautiful country, and our rights. So I’d like to say something about our Veterans today. Our Veterans, whether they live at home with us today, are overseas, someone we don’t know, sadly have passed away, or are missing in action, fought for us. They made sure we could go to sleep in peace, and wake up to freedom and happiness. They fought for our rights, our lives, and our country. They wanted to make sure that we don’t have to go through mass bombings and shootings. They make sure that we don’t have to fight. They protect us, they save us, and they help us. Our veterans made sure that we’d be in freedom and peace today, and they did that right. They’ve made our lives easier. They’ve made our days free and peaceful. Without our Veterans, we may have to wake up every morning to bombs, shootings, and people being killed along with the destroyed land. Our Veterans, have made sure that America is a free, peaceful, and beautiful country. But even overseas, they are trying to make countries better. They are trying to stop ter- rorist attacks, and they are trying hard. I don’t exactly know how they do it, but they’ve fought so we can have a better life. They’ve left their families and friends, for months, maybe even years, to make sure that they will be safe. Some Veterans don’t even get to meet or see their children until they go home, and their kids may be 1 or 2 by then. Our Veterans are truly amazing, they withstand great battles, whether it’s not being able to see the people you love, or you are in a war. Our Veterans will be amazing until the day they die, and even after their death, they will be remembered as the amazing people they once were.

8 The HMS Stinger Winter Edition 2016 Nintendo’s New Console “Switch” and More By: Kevin Roback

On Friday October 20th, Nintendo revealed their new console, the Switch. It is planned to release in March 2017. The popular and main feature of the console is that you can play the game on the TV by using a detachable controller. If you want to play a game on the go, you can detach the right and left side of the controller and connect it to an iPad-like screen. Awesome right? The battery life of the “on-the-go” Switch is estimated to be around three to five hours long. Third party game developers like and Bethesda are making games on the system, so games like Skyrim and Legends are going to be expected. For other news, the “Return of Platformers” is currently taking place, with new games like Yooka Laylee coming out. Yooka Laylee is supposed to be like RareWare’s Banjo Kazooie, as the team making the game are ex-Rare workers. After a successful Kickstarter, the game is to be released early 2017. What’s trending? Telltale’s “The Walking Dead: Season Three” Releases on Decem- ber 20th. It follows the storyline of the survivor Clementine, now an adult. More zombie mayhem occurs as you continue to fight to survive. The point-and-click action returns and is said to be bigger than ever. BattleField One is the newest Battlefield game based on World War One. It is a ge- neric shooter game, but with satisfying weapons, actually from the time area, amazing graphics and a ramped up multiplayer. The multiplayer consists of ten huge maps and eight different game modes. The weapons consist of thirty unique firearms and ten melee weapons. The Last Guardian is a beautiful and beautifully hyped game, created by the loved Fumito Ueda, for games like Dark Souls. After five years of extending development, the game leaves with ex- treme disappointment. A wonderful soundtrack, great graphics, a master- piece of a story, how could this game go wrong? Unresponsive controls. Unre- sponsive controls can ruin a near perfect game, even if it could be fixed with a few extra weeks of development. Ruining the puzzles since jumping doesn’t work all of the time. Combat doesn’t work occasion- ally, as the attack button locks up the most of the time. It doesn’t help, since the combat is unfair and repetitive. With just a little bit of extra polish, this would be a near perfect game. IGN gave it a seven out of ten. “Team Ico's much- anticipated third game is filled with the highest highs, and the lowest lows.” , says Marty Sliva. What we’ve learned from this, is that games with extended delays that go on longer than two or three years, have to be complete train wreck of a game. Sad thing is: this game is so close to amazing, but it just can’t see the light of day.
