2019 Term 4 Basketball Information for Parents 2019 TERM 4 BASKETBALL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS Dear Parents We are looking forward to the Term 4 IPSHA Basketball Competition. I hope your daughter has an enjoyable term while learning new skills, socialising and keeping fit. Duration : Each game is 2 x 20 minute halves with a 5 minute half time. Girls are asked to be at the game 30 minutes before the allocated start time. Uniform : ➢ PLC Sydney black PE shorts ➢ PLC Sydney NEW reversible singlet ➢ PLC Sydney tracksuit (optional) ➢ White Socks ➢ Sports Shoes ➢ Please note, there are some safety concerns with the sports shoes being worn to Saturday sport. Basketball shoes are different to walking shoes and running shoes, they primarily provide support during sidewards movement, reducing the risk of lower limb sprains. Running shoes only support the foot when running in a forward direction. Walking shoes (even those that look like sports shoes) provide no support for sport due to the soft flexible design, dramatically increasing the chance of injury. The PLC Sydney tracksuit may be worn to and from the venue. The grey zip-up sports top may be worn on Saturdays, but only underneath the school tracksuit. Hair must be tied back off the face and no jewellery is to be worn. Nails must be short. PLC Sydney caps may be worn to and from the game, however, may not be worn during the game for safety reasons. If outdoors, the soft brim green hat can be worn while playing. Wet Weather : Step 1 : Download the 'ipsha app' Step 2 : Click on 'venue closure' Please note that all games are ON until called off via that app. If raining and the game has not been called off, it is advised to regularly refresh the 'venue closure' page as you drive to the venue. The Sports Coordinators use the same website to get this information. Absence : Parents are asked to register any absence for both training and games online through the PLC Sydney website. The Sports Coordinators and Coaching Staff will have direct access to this information. If your daughter will be absent for a game and there is less than 24 hours' notice you will also need to email the Sports Coordinator directly, as well as complete the online form. This will give the Coordinator an opportunity to determine player numbers earlier to avoid disappointment when teams are short. Saturday Sport Absence Notification Link (information on how to create a link for your mobile phone home screen can be found on this page) Further Information : All information regarding Basketball can be found on the PLC Sydney sports website www.plc.nsw.edu.au ➢ General Information – Junior School Sports ➢ IPSHA Basketball Draws & Venues – Saturday Sports Draws If you have any other questions, please contact Colin Smith preferably via email at [email protected] or in the Sports staff room on 9704 5645. Yours sincerely Colin Smith Players’ Code of Behaviour ➢ Play by the rules. ➢ Never argue with an official. ➢ Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not permitted in any sport. ➢ Work equally hard for yourself and/or for your team. Your team will benefit, so will you. ➢ Be a good sport. Applaud all good play, whether by your team, opponents or the other team. ➢ Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat. ➢ Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player. ➢ Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no competition. ➢ Place in proper perspective isolated incidents of unsporting behaviour rather than making such incidents the highlight of the event. ➢ If a player is sent off during the game, a one-week suspension is recommended. ➢ Thank the opposition and officials at the end of a game. Spectators’ Code of Behaviour ➢ Children play organised sports for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of spectators only, nor are they miniature professionals. ➢ Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the game’s outcome. ➢ Respect the official’s decision. ➢ Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a competition. ➢ Positive comments are motivational and encourage continued effort. ➢ Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players. ➢ Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them there would be no game. ➢ Encourage players to follow the rules and the officials’ decisions. ➢ Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul language, harassing players, coaches or officials. ➢ Comments should not interfere with the running of the game. ➢ Focus on the efforts and performance of the children rather than the result. Complaints : please address any complaints to Basketball Sport Coordinator Colin Smith via email [email protected] UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should parents contact other schools directly. Music, dance, drama, creative writing and visual arts have been explored and celebrated on both campuses. Creativity has also been highlighted in exploring the STEM subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Thinking in original ways is celebrated as girls explore the world around them. The theme word for the year has been ‘integrity’. As a school we have explored what this looks like and its importance to one’s character. Students know that integrity is linked to courage in doing the right thing, no matter what the consequences. Character growth is an important feature of an Abbotsleigh education with our values firmly grounded in our Christian faith. I thank you all for your involvement in supporting your daughter’s learning journey and it is with pleasure that I share with you some of the highlights of the year.
