ABSTRACT he tourism sector is always deferred with a huge potential for growth, and Tthus become crucial not only for the nations, but also for the entire international community. The tourism proved to be one of the most effective means of job creation and the economic development of local communities. Tourism has shown that the potential for the creation of jobs and the promotion of income-generating activities in favour of the local and regional authorities. Certainly tourism offers many gateways for the employment of women and the possibilities of job creation independent of the small and medium- sized income generating activities, the creation of railway undertakings after the removal of the poverty of the women and of the municipalities in the developing countries. Tourism provides employment opportunities in a large number. Today, millions of women are a part of the tourism industry, both directly and indirectly. The tourism industry has contributed positively to the empowerment of women in India and throughout the world. The presence of women is seen in all sectors of tourism industry such as hotels, airlines, tour operator and travel services. Tourism development aims at improving the lives of people living in the local surroundings through responsible tourism. Studies show that in Kerala, the participation of women in tourism development activities is increasing and this has resulted in the overall development of the local community.

History Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala, is endowed with rich natural resources and is noted for its majestic forts, ravishing rivers, hills, green valleys and beautiful beaches. Seven languages are prevalent in Kasaragod. Malayalam is the administrative language. Other languages are Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Marati, Urdu and Beary.Prior to State reorganization, Kasaragod was part of the South Kanara district.Kasaragod became a part of Malabar district following the reorganization of States and formation of unified Kerala State. Later, Kasaragod Taluk of Malabar district was bifurcated in to Kasaragod and Hosdurg Taluks and integrated with the then newly formed Cannanore district. Kasaragod became part of Kerala following the re-organization of states and formation of Kerala in 1st November 1956.The district was Kasaragod Taluk in Kannur District.The formation of Kasaragod district was a long felt ambition of the people.It is with the intention of bestowing maximum attention on the development of backward area, Kasaragod district was formed on 24th May,1984 as per GO (MS)No.520/84/RD, Dated 19.05.1984 by taking Kasaragod and Hosdurg taluks from the then Kannur district.The name Kasaragod is said to be derived from the word Kasaragod which means Nuxvemied Forest(Kanjirakuttam). 1.2. Its configuration alongside a small separate beach suggests a spot where medieval ships and boats once landed. It would be all too easy to see lit- tle else in Bekal’s hinterland. The Vivanta’s expansive grounds are tranquil, its pool idyllic, the beach almost deserted and there are few utterly compelling reasons to leave. If there’s any disappointment here, it’s the sea itself – strong currents sweeping the steeply shelving beach mean that the hotel urges guests not to swim here at all and it’s obvious that would-be bathers really ought to take care. Just beyond Kasaragod, Bekal’s nearest town, we drop by a couple of curious temples.
