Prayer of Invocation

Welcome In the Name of Jesus

Jesus proclaims: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. ~ John 8:12, ESV Call To Worship Psalm 105:1-6 Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of , his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones! Song of Praise Luther A Mighty Fortress Is Our God A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and pow’r are great; and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; were not the right Man on our side, the man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he, Lord Sabaoth his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle. And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo! his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. That Word above all earthly pow’rs, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also; The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still; 3 his kingdom is forever. Prayer of Adoration

Call to Confession Leader: To you, O Lord, we lift up our souls. O God, in you we trust. You will not let us be put to shame. Let us confess our sin before you, a God who truly is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in undying love and faithfulness.

Confession of Sin

Congregation: For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away. For day and night, your hand was heavy upon me. I acknowledged my sin to you and I did not cover my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

O Lamb of God, that takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon me. O Lamb of God, that takes away the sins of the world, grant me your peace.

Assurance of God’s Grace The Lord, in his abundant mercy and unending love has created in his people clean hearts and renewed minds. He does not cast us out away from his presence, rather he draws us near like a mother to her children. He restores in us joy and willing spirits to follow him all of our days. His Spirit he gives us without measure. In his mercy, sin does not have the final word over us. Rather, we are restored creations in Christ as we were created to be! Amen.

4 Song of Thanksgiving Townsend How Deep the Father’s Love For Us How deep the Father’s love for us How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory Behold the man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom

5 Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil. For your’s is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

New Testament Reading 1 Peter 5:6-10

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

6 Worship Through Giving The offering of our financial gifts is a confession on the part of God’s people that everything we have is from God and belongs to God. God has been gracious, merciful and generous to us. Because of this, we return, with joy a portion of that gift to God for the purpose of fulfilling his mission in Memphis, Midtown and the world.
