We’ll have speakers and presentations to inform and stimulate discussion around how communities can contribute to economic growth and will be officially launching our new name - Durham Community Action. Over the last four years DRCC has been offering a number of training courses in Durham to help group be more efficient and effective with regard to their administration and support services. These courses include Managing the Money, Easy Accounts, Setting up a Website, Social Media, and Village Halls in a Changing Landscape. Please complete the linked questionnaire so that we can measure the impact of that training, and involve you in the planning and delivery of the sharing of learning we have had as a result of this project. The course is aimed at people who are active members of a governing body or who are interested in developing the knowledge and skills required to be- come a member of a governing body. This workshop will look at what makes up our Parliament and where the opportuni- ties are to feed in information to the decision makers there. Covering the House of Commons, the House of Lords, Committees and Legislation this short workshop will give you an insight into how to have your voice heard in the heart of Government. - Understand the structure of Parliament · Understand the role of MPs and Lords and how to contact them - Know how to provide evidence to various committees · Know how to respond to Government consultations 5 Training Making Meetings Effective Venue: East Durham Trust, Community House, Yoden Road, PETERLEE SR8 5DP Date: 28 October 2013 Time: 12.30 pm – 4.00 pm COST: £10 (£2.50 concessionary price if working in the V & C Sector & free to un- employed) Voluntary and Community groups rely on a variety of meetings to run effectively but many of us feel that some of them are time wasters. This workshop uses Peter Hon- ey’s Diagnostic Tool on Effective Meetings to help you identify which areas are caus- ing problems for you and what you can do about it. A must for anyone serving on a committee! This session will guide you through the role of a mi- nute-taker and equip you with key skills and tips for taking effective minutes in fu- ture. The training provides a simple guide to the policies, procedures and working practices you should have in place to make sure your staff and volunteers have the confidence and skills to deal with safeguarding issues and concerns.
