A decent entry of finished cattle and some excellent quality butcher’s beasts presented. Strong demand and keen bidding for all types and grades. A superb consignment from Messrs W H & LM Williams & Son of Allet saw their premium 699kg Limousin steer sell to £240p/kg which also realised top value at £1,677, purchased by J V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Other good runs from regular consigners inc. Messrs C B Stevens of Germoe, Mr EG Benney of Smith and Miss S P Gribble of Lanner. The OTM’s included a good run of Aberdeen Angus x beasts from Messrs K L & C D Rowe of Zelah but all 36 mo plus.

A sizeable entry for July month, which included a good proportion of suckler bred types as well as a large number of dairy x inc. a superb run of young shapely British Blue x steers and heifers from Messrs R D Richards & Son of Ladock presenting 53 head. A well grown Simmental x steer from Choon Farms sold at £1,155 with the same price achieved for the best of a cracking run of single suckled Limousin x steers from Ashley Mann of Budock Water. Topping the heifer section were fleshy British Blue x heifers from Messrs L T Harvey & Sons of Newbridge at £1,035. A smart run of single suckled yearling mixed continental x and pure South Devon steers from Richard Dunn of Par sold exceptional well for their age showing that quality dictates.

A slightly smaller entry of calves this week met strong demand from a full ring of both local and out-of-county buyers. Top price in the male section was an exceptional Limousin x calf at £395 from Miss Lavinia Tripconey of St Keverne, whilst Peter Kemp of Mullion took top heifer price with a super Charolais x at £355. More numbers needed to satisfy demand.

Improved averages on the week, but a broad variation in quality and finish. The borderline lambs were less sought after in contrast to the well-finished types. Prices peaked at £119 (266p/kg) for a smart pen of 44.8kg Texel lambs from Messrs P J Grylls Son of Kenwyn, Truro bought by Trevarthens of Roskrow. Two pens of fresh Lleyn x lambs from Messrs S & S A J Rickard of Devoran also high in the averages with handyweight achieving 261p/kg purchased by J V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.
