Th e Grape Growers of Ontario, in partnership with Meridian Credit Union, Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, and the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, are pleased to announce that Gerry Dee will be the guest speaker at the 2016 Annual Celebrity Luncheon in St. Catharines on Wednesday, September 14th. “Th e Grape Growers of Ontario are proud to be able to showcase Canadian talent each year, from celebrities like Gerry Dee, to our Canadian wines made from grapes grown by local grape growers,” says Matthias Oppenlaender, Chair of Grape Growers of Ontario. Gerry Dee was born in Scarborough, Ontario and left his 10-year high school teaching career to embark on a full- time comedy and acting career in 2003. He became the fi rst Canadian in 27 years to win the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, and has received many awards including Toronto’s Funniest New Comic and Best Comic in Canada. Based on his real-life experiences as a high school teacher, Gerry’s sitcom, Mr. D debuted in Janu- ary 2012 to 1.23 million viewers, the highest-rated scripted show premiere for the network in 7 years. Season 6 premieres on CBC in the fall of 2016. Th e Celebrity Luncheon is Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Club Roma in St. Catharines. July 2016 3 LCBO Q4 Wine Sales Report Th is is the fourth quarter (Q4) report for the 2015-2016 fi scal year. All statistics are reported for the 12 months ending March 31, 2016. For comparison, the percentage growth in litres of VQA wine sales in Q3 2015-16 (Rolling 13 Periods) ending January 2, 2016 was: Imported +2.6%, ICB/ Non-VQA +7.0%, VQA +5.2%. Th e percentage growth in value (dollars) is higher than volume (litres) growth for the 12 months end- ing March 31, 2016 at +4.8% for imported wine and +7.0% for VQA wine, and less for ICB/non-VQA wine at +8.5%. Breaking down the growth in dollars by channel, the VQA sales at Winery Retail Stores increased by 5.6% and 7.4% at LCBO & Vintages; ICB grew by 9.2% at Winery Stores and 7.7% at LCBO & Vintages. VQA wine sales represent 10.66% (Q3 2015-16 was 10.74%) of the overall sales of wine in Ontario (by vol- ume) through the LCBO, Vintages, Winery Retail Store and Direct Delivery channels with market share of VQA and ICB/Non-VQA Ontario wines increased to 43.75% (43.44% in the 12 months ending January 2, 2016). Market share of VQA in dollars declined slightly to 13.96% from 14.01% in the 12 months ending January 2, 2016.
