Egypt implements 4 sanitation projects in Red Sea at LE 1,6 billion CAIRO - 26 August 2019: Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communi ties, Assem ei-Gazzar, announced on Aug. 26 that four sanitation projects are being implemented in the Red Sea Governorate at a cost of LE 1, 635 billion and set to be completed by the end of 2019.
The minister explained that these projects include the expansion of Hurghada sewage project and serving the emerging and deprived areas (eight lifting stations and networks), as well as the expansion of the sewage project in Ras Ghareb, the sewage projects in Ras Ghareb, AI Quseir and Safaga. According to the minister, the first phase of the 30,000 m3/day operation is being carried out at the Tertiary Sewage Treatment Plant in the Red Sea Governorate. The plant has a total capacity of 90,000 m3/day worth LE 875 million. (Source: Egypt Today)

Fang is shy, but streetwise, she is also a mother several times over. Her life was hard and she was emaciated and worn out by motherhood. But, now, thankfully, no more babies for Fang. The neutered animals will be healthier, cleaner, often more friendly, and most importantly not able to add to the already extensive street animal population. In May Fang was neutered and had corrective dental work. She is now a beautiful cat whose only concerns are finding food for herself and playing with the other cats. All her babies have also been through the TNR programme so the Fang Gang is now a closed group! Red Sea Mountain Trail CAIRO - 24 August 2019: In its Travel Trends segment, CNN broadcast earlier this week was a promo on Egypt's Red Sea Mountain Trail suitable for adventure travel. The video featured the project's founders mountaineer Omar Samra and British adventurer Ben Hoffler.

This season, archaeologists have found the skeleton of boats with a treasure trove of jew elry and gold coins (some date from the reign of Ptolemy II, 283- 246 BC), as well as the ruins of two temples. Excavations of Heracleon have been carried out by the European Institute of Underwater Archeology and the Oxford Center for Underwater Archeology for almost 19 years. During this time, under a meter-long layer of silt at a depth of 45 meters, dozens of cores of various vessels were found, some of which are well preserved. Using ancient texts, they discovered the city's remains six kilometers off the Egyptian coast. Pristinely preserved, it is an archaeological jewel - an ancient Egyptian city frozen in time. In the fading days of the pharaohs, the city of Heracleon was the gateway to Egypt and a port beyond compare. In the 4th century BC, t his was an opulent and prosperous place adorned with statues and sphinxes. In the 2nd century BC it was wiped off the face of the earth. In a mysterious subsidence, the coastline dropped by over 20ft and Heracleon was consumed by the sea. The lost city slept for centuries be neath the waters of the Mediterranean. Why is Heraclion important? The city was founded, presumably, in the VIII century BC. e. It was men tioned by Herodotus and Diodorus of Sicily. It was in Lower Egypt, at the mouth of the western arm of the Nile, in close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. The good location helped Heraklion in the Late Period to become a rich commercial and cultural center, the "predecessor" of Alexandria. The religious life of the city was concentrated in a temple complex dedicated to the Theban triad: Amon, Mut and Khons. In the VIII cent ury AD e. a powerful earthquake put an end to the story of Hera clion: it was destroyed and went under water. The team of Frank Goddio managed to find not only dozens of ships - the largest known cemetery of ancient ships - but also many religious and domestic items. The glorious temples, statues, houses and boats of the cities lie perfectly preserved by the sea, providing a snapshot of ancient Egypt ian life. But many mysteries remain. Like other species of the genus, the fish feeds on algae and zooplankton in the wild. It doesn't just live in the Red Sea. You will also find it in the Gulf of Eden and in the Chagos Islands in the Pacific, some 3364 km away. But curiously, nowhere in be tween. The Red Sea Clownfish lives from the shal lows down to 30m, generally in pairs in as sociation with anemones. This is a classic example of symbiosis - where two differ ent organisms live in close physical associa tion to the advantage of both. The sting ing tentacles of the anemone protect the clownfish from predators. The benefit to the anemone is probably down to the fish's swimming within its tentacles and wafting them around, thus increasing the water flow and hence the amount of oxygen available to the anemone. The anemone may also feed on the fish's waste material, plus the fish remove bits of debris from the anemone. There is also evidence that some clownfish species attack butterfly fish, which would otherwise eat the anem one. The clownfish are not worried by the anemone's stinging cells (nematocysts) is down to their mucus coating. When the clownfish lavae settle in the anemone their mucus coat acquires the anemone's chemical signature, which inhibits the nematocysts from firing. Clownfish start off male, but if the female dies the dominant male will change into a female. The fish spawn around the full moon and lay 500 to 1500 eggs on a patch of cleared rock near the anemone home. The parent often rubs the anemone causing the ten tacle to extend, which in turn forms a protective canopy for the eggs of t he fish. The male cares for t he eggs, driving away intruders. Even divers have been attacked if they get too close. He blows water over the eggs, giving them oxygen-rich water and preventing fungus from growing over them. After around a week the eggs hatch, usu ally soon after sunset. The larvae then drift in the current for more than a fortnight before seeking their own anemone. A recent study found that the larvae of a similar species, the Omani clownfish, regularly travelled 400 km - the longest distance scientists have been able to track the dispersal of any coral reef fish. Larval clownfish can smell predators which helps them avoid being eaten as they search for an anemone in which to live. How ever in raised ocean acidity- which will happen if we fail to curb C02 emissions-t hey lose their ability to smell predators. Other ex periments have shown that they also lose the ability to smell their anemone hosts. You can identify this clownfish from others as it has no white st ripe at the base of its tail; t he tail is orange and not black or white and of course by its location. Many have blackish backs but some are pure orange. They grow to 14 em long. The Red Sea Clownfish is known for being very active in a saltwater aquarium, which makes them attractive and a good choice for a larger display aquarium. They are generally peaceful, but grow to a large size and can become territorial when established as a mature pair. It is recommended to house Red Sea Clownfish in an aquarium w ith a minimum of 30 gallons of water.
