For this reason, the use of questionnaires takes place which aims to realizing if and to what extend this form of tourism comprises a comparative and competitive advantage for the prefecture of Pieria. The research method of this paper is the qualitative research and more specifically the use of questionnaires with 13 questions in total. The scope was to research whether the prefecture of Pieria is a religious-pilgrimage destination. The sample is comprised of 102 participants, being Greek residents originating from other Greek counties, the European Union, and Third World Countries. The requirement was for the participant to have visited the prefecture of Pieria. The independency test (x2) was used for checking the interconnections between the different factors, while at the same time an allocation of frequencies was conducted based on the study and presentation of frequency as much as relevant frequency. Due to the fact that, no other similar former researches have been conducted regarding religious tourism in Pieria, this research will be able to give some useful conclusions.

Visitors are invited to explore the rich artistic heritage of northern Greece, many of whose treasures are still little known to the general public, due to the relatively recent nature of archaeological discoveries in this area. It was not until 1977, when several royal sepulchral monuments were unearthed at Vergina, among them the unopened tomb of Philip II, Alexander the Great’s father, that the full archaeological potential of this region was realized. Further excavations at this prestigious site, now identified with Aegae, the first capital of ancient Macedonia, resulted in a number of other important discoveries, including a puzzling burial site revealed in 2008, which will in all likelihood entail revisions in our knowledge of ancient history. With shrewd political skill, ancient Macedonia’s rulers, of whom Alexander the Great remains the best known, orchestrated the rise of Macedon from a small kingdom into one which came to dominate the entire Hellenic world, before defeating the Persian Empire and conquering lands as far away as India.

The websterite and the olivine-orthopyroxenite show abundant petrographic and geochemical evidence (relic olivines with mantle affinities, Cr-rich spinels, low Al2O3, depletions in incompatible elements, and concave upwards rare earth element patterns) that they comprise replacive bodies from refractory subarc mantle precursors. The occurrence of these pyroxenites in dykes implies that channelled percolation of melts account for their replacive character. High CaO/Al2O3, low Zr and crystallisation of diopside suggest that a melt of ankaramitic/carbonatitic composition percolated in lherzolite replacing porphyroclastic olivine and forming the pyroxenes in the websterite. At a shallower level, harburgites were impregnated by boninitic melts (inferred by U-shape rare earth element patterns and very rich in Cr spinels) triggering the replacement of porphyroclastic olivine by orthopyroxene for the formation of olivine-orthopyroxenite.

  • Hellenic Republic Ministry of Citizen Protection Report
HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF CITIZEN PROTECTION REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE FOLLOWING HER VISIT TO GREECE FROM 25 TO 29 JUNE 2018 Comments of the Ministry of Citizen Protection: In paragraphs 7 and 64 of the Report of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, following her visit to Greece during the time period 25-29 June 2018, mention is made of allegations about «summary» returns to Turkey, sometimes by using violence, a fact which prevent the immigrants from access to the asylum procedure. As the Commissioner reports, these allegations are based on reports of civil society organizations, which include numerous testimonies. With reference to the above mentioned, it is pointed out that the Hellenic Police works towards the direction of protection of the fundamental rights at the borders, together with operational action. In conjunction with this goal, the Police Agencies all over the territory are supervised and any incidents coming to the notice of the Police Authorities and raising suspicions of disciplinary offences are thoroughly investigated. In particular, it is pointed out that the behaviours and practices denounced do not exist at all as operational activity and practice of the personnel of Border Guarding Agencies, who are mainly involved in actions for facing the phenomenon of illegal immigration at the Greek-Turkish borders. More specifically, operational action applied for the prevention of the immigrants’ entry into our country is focused on their detection inside the Turkish territory by the use of technical means during their movement and approach to Evros river, and then on the prevention of its crossing, both by the use of light and sound signals from the Greek riverbank, and by the immediate arrival to the crossing point of floating patrols.

  • Map 50 Macedonia Compiled by E.N
Map 50 Macedonia Compiled by E.N. Borza, 1994 Introduction Map 50 Macedonia Map 51 Thracia The single most valuable guide to Greek and Roman settlements as far east as Philippi is Papazoglou (1988). While ostensibly a treatment of Roman towns in Macedonia, it incorporates considerable information about pre-Roman periods at many sites, and includes exhaustive and valuable notes on the ancient sources and modern scholarship. Although now largely supplanted by Papazoglou on the treatment of individual sites and the road system, Hammond (1972) presents a comprehensive overview of the historical geography and topography of Macedonia. For Chalcidice, Zahrnt’s (1971) study emphasizes pre-Roman periods. TIR Philippi, covering those parts of Thrace lying within modern Greece, is generally accurate and has comprehensive bibliographies. Isaac (1986) is a useful survey with references to the ancient sources and modern scholarship. Since the 1920s much of Thrace, especially the Chersonese, has been a military zone, with the result that archaeological survey and excavation have been severely restricted. TIR Naissus provides information about hundreds of Roman sites within the modern state of Macedonia; for areas within Greece today, however, it is less reliable. References to south Slavic scholarly investigations more recent than those listed by it can be found in MAA and ArchIug. On the Greek side, two annual publications cover continuing archaeological work in the region: the summaries of recent work cited in BCH, and the archaeologists’ own reports in AEMT. RE remains a comprehensive guide to the ancient evidence for toponyms. The ancient courses of the principal rivers flowing into the central Macedonian plain are largely conjectural because over the centuries they have frequently shifted in this highly alluviated region.
