Characteristics of pegmatoidal granite exposed near Bayalan, Ajmer district, Rajasthan Nilanjan Dasgupta1,∗, Taritwan Pal2, Joydeep Sen1 and Tamoghno Ghosh1 1Department of Geology, Presidency University, 86/1 College Street, Kolkata 700 073, India. 2Department of Geology and Geophysics, IIT Kharagpur, Midnapore, West Bengal, India. ∗e-mail: [email protected] The study involves the characterization of pegmatoidal granite, southeast of Beawar, Ajmer district, Rajasthan. Earlier researchers had described this granite as part of the BGC, basement to the Bhim Group of the Delhi Super Group rocks. However, the present study indicates that it is younger than the rocks of Bhim Group of South Delhi Fold Belt, into which it is intrusive. The intrusion is structurally controlled and the outcrop pattern is phacolithic. The granite had intruded post-D2 deformation of the Delhi orogeny along the axial planes of D2 folds. The intrusion has also resulted in the formation of a contact aureole about the calc gneisses. 1. Introduction host rocks by this emplacement have been studied. An attempt is made to fix the time of emplacement A long geological history since Middle Archaean with respect to the different deformational events is recorded in the Precambrian belt of Rajasthan. of the Delhi orogeny. PREFACE CENSUS TAKING, IT HAS RECENTLY BEEN explained by the Census Commissioner for India, should be regarded primarily as a detached collection and presentation of certain facts in tabular form for the use and consultation of the whole country, and, for that matter, the whole world. Conclusions are for ot.hers to draw. It is upon this understanding of their purpose that Tables have been printed in this volume with only the ,barest notes necessary to explain such points as definitions, change of areas, etc. But perhaps the word , barest' is too bare and requires some covering. In the past it has been customary to preface the Tables with many pages of text, devoted to providing some general description of the area concerned and supported by copious Subsidiary Tables and comparisons with data collected in other provinces, countries and states. On this occasion there is no prefatory text, no provision of extraneous comparisons, and Subsidiary Tables have virtually been made part of the Tables themselves. We may agree that the present method of presentation has much to recommend it. Those who seriously study census statistics at least can be presumed to be able to draw their own deductions: they do not need a guide constantly at their side, and indeed may actually resent his well-intentioned efforts. All that they require are t,he bare facts. Yet such people must ever constitute a very small minority. 'Vhat of the others-the vast majority of the public? It is hardly to be expected that they can be lured to Census Tavern by the offer of such coarse fare.

The golden yellow limestone and sandstone built architectonic heritage impart an exquisite character to Jaisalmer city, which is popularly known as ‘The Golden City’. The Jaisalmer Fort built by limestone and sandstone has been listed as a world UNESCO heritage site-locally referred to as ‘Sonar Qila’ meaning ‘Golden Fort’. Jaisalmer is renowned for architecturally distinctive Jaisalmer Fort, Palace of Maharawal (now Fort Palace Museum), Jain and Lodurva temples, Nathmalji-ki-Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli and Salim Singh ki Haveli and Bada Bag cenotaphs (burial monuments, locally known as chattris) constructed by yellow limestone and sandstone. The limestone and sandstone used in the architectonic heritage are decorated by fine and minute ornate carvings. The yellow limestone and sandstone, well exposed around the Jaisalmer city, belong to the Jaisalmer Formation of Jurassic age. Prominent outcrops exist at Bada Bag, Hamira and Baisakhi.

  • Risk in Output Growth of Oilseeds in the Rajasthan State: a Policy Perspective
Agricultural Economics Research Review Vol. 18 (Conference No.) 2005 pp 115-133 Risk in Output Growth of Oilseeds in the Rajasthan State: A Policy Perspective P.K. Jain1, I.P. Singh2 and Anil Kumar2 Abstract Today, India is one of the largest producers of oilseeds in the world and this sector occupies an important position in the agricultural economy. Rajasthan state occupies a prominent place in the oilseeds production of India. The important oilseed crops of the Rajasthan state are groundnut, soyabean, rapeseed & mustard, sesamum and taramira. The growth pattern of these crops in the state has been prone to risk over time and across the agro-climatic regions because of the rainfall behaviour, prolonged drought- periods, limited water-resources and facilities available in the state Under such a situation, growth performances of these crops are subjected to high degree of risks in the sector. Therefore, it is important to describe the growth pattern of area, production and productivity, factors affecting acreage allocation under crops and magnitude of instability as well as its sources in major oilseeds crops of Rajasthan state. The fluctuating yield has been seen for almost all the oilseeds crops. However, the area and yield instability of the mustard crop has been found declining overtime plausibly because of increase in irrigation facilities, location-specific technologies and better input management. However, this needs to be further strengthened for improvement in the overall agricultural scenario. The acreage of the crops has been found to be governed by both price and non-price factors. Hence, price incentive alone has not been found to be the sufficient in bringing the desirable change in the cropping pattern as well production of crops.

Inside are shops swaddled in bright embroideries, a royal palace and numerous businesses looking for your tourist rupee. Despite the commercialism, it’s hard not to be enchanted by this desert citadel. Beneath the ramparts, particularly to the north, the narrow streets of the old city conceal magnificent havelis; all carved from the same golden-honey sandstone as the fort – hence Jaisalmer’s designation as the Golden City. A city that has come back almost from the dead in the past half-century, Jaisalmer may be remote, but it’s certainly not forgotten – indeed it’s one of Rajasthan’s biggest tourist destinations. Weather – Best time to go – The best time to visit Jaisalmer is in between the months of October to March. This is mainly so because the summer months experiences very hot and Tour de India HOLIDAYS humid weather conditions. If you are visiting Jaisalmer as a tourist, then the ideal time is the winter season. This is the best time to enjoy sightseeing and participating in outdoor fun activities like desert safari and camel rides. The temperature remains pleasant during daytime and cool at night. Shopping - Jaisalmer is famous for its stunning embroidery, bedspreads, mirror work wall hangings, oil lamps, stonework and antiques’; watch out when purchasing silver items: the metal is sometimes adulterated with bronze.
