  • Heroes and Rallies Baseball
Heroes and Rallies Baseball Setup Pick two teams to go head to head, and fill out your lineups on the scoresheet. Each team receives 8 skill assignments to give to individual players. All of the skill assignments listed below must be used within your starting lineup for a total of 8. A player may possess two assignments if you wish. Rate your lineup by placing the appropriate notation beside a player’s name on the scoresheet. 1) star hitter (H) 2) star slugger (S) 3) star runner (R) 4) star fielder (F) 5) poor hitter (H-) 6) weak hitter (S-) 7) slow runner (R-) 8) poor fielder (F-) Once a player has a skill assignment, he cannot transfer it to another player. There is one additional skill assignment available for an ace pitcher (X). You may, however, choose not to start one. Make any pitcher a poor hitter as well (H-), so there will be two poor hitters if a pitcher is in the lineup. Game Play Roll the dice for each player who comes up to bat, reading the colored die first and the white die second. If a result occurs on the Batting chart which displays an image of a ballplayer, the inning is considered finished with no further scoring. Draw an X in the box on the scoresheet representing the current hitter’s at-bat. When his team next comes up to bat, the next player in the lineup will hit. If the color of a chart result corresponds to the color of the skill assignment of the player who is currently up to bat, the result changes to the one shown on the bottom of the Batting chart.

  • Molina's Success Long in Making
Molina’s success long in making 11 HOURS AGO • BY DERRICK GOOLD [email protected] 314-340-8285 CINCINNATI • When Yadier Molina still was a teenager, his father, Benjamin, placed him on an amateur team in Puerto Rico that pitted his youngest son against men 10 years older and 10 years more mature and forced him to find a way to make sure they weren’t also 10 years better. The team was the Hatillo Tigres. Benjamin had another predator in mind. “I threw him with the lions,” he would say. That was the explanation that Benjamin gave Bengie and Jose Molina, the older brothers, when they asked their dad why young Yadier was urged to play in one of Puerto Rico’s top men’s amateur leagues before even being eligible for the major-league draft. “Oh, I’m going to throw him with the lions and make him grow up,” Bengie Molina recalled his father saying. “And he did. Yadi did. That’s why I think he’s good. He had to be a veteran at a young age. When he came over here it was nothing. I think that’s what started it, at least. You have to grow up quick in that league. That’s the way I saw it. That was the first step to where he is now.” Where he is now is the MVP-caliber catcher and compass for the team with the best record in baseball. The Cardinals often go where Molina points them. If it’s not shepherding a rookie-infused rotation to the lowest ERA in the National League, it’s providing as the leading hitter, often in the middle of the lineup.

  • A's News Clips, Saturday, June 12, 2010 Oakland A's Starter Gio
A’s News Clips, Saturday, June 12, 2010 Oakland A's starter Gio Gonzalez pays for mistakes -- pair of two-run homers By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune The odds of the A's lighting up the scoreboard this weekend don't appear great, which means their pitchers don't have much margin for error. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez paid dearly Friday night for two mistakes that doomed the A's in a 6-2 defeat to the Giants in the opener of a three-game series at AT&T Park. Gonzalez has battled control problems at times this season, and those struggles surfaced again. One thing he generally hadn't done was fall victim to the long ball. But he surrendered a pair of two-run home runs, his first multihomer game this season, and lost for the first time in six starts. Pat Burrell hit a two-run shot in the third and Bengie Molina went deep in the sixth, which chased Gonzalez from the game. "Two mistake pitches make it a different game," Gonzalez said. The A's have their work cut out this weekend from an offensive standpoint. Catcher Kurt Suzuki, their leading home run hitter, will miss all three games because he's on bereavement leave after the death of his grandfather in Hawaii. Speedy leadoff hitter Rajai Davis missed his fourth straight game with a sore left hamstring, and it's unknown if he'll be available today. And the A's are without the designated hitter as they begin this stretch of nine games in National League ballparks.

Love Story Between a Son and His Father reviewed by Bill Pence of CoramDeotheBlog.comBy Bill PenceThis book tells of the love story between father Pai, and oldest son Bengie Molina. It is also the incredible story of a family that produced three major league baseball catchers (José, Yadier and Bengie), who each have earned two World Series championships, as well as an autobiography of Bengie.Pai was a very talented baseball player who had the potential, but never made it to the major leagues. In fact, Bengie writes that people will tell you that Pai was a better player than any of his sons. Bengie does not reveal until late in the book why Pai didn’t play in the major leagues.Pai taught and coached youth baseball, which was his passion.

  • Weekly Notes 041918
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 2018 HISTORY ON THE ISLAND Wednesday night’s game between the Cleveland Indians and the Minnesota Twins was the 62nd regular season international game in MLB history. The two-game series marked the fi rst regular season games to be played by both Cleveland and Minnesota outside of the United States and Canada. With the pair of games this week, Hiram Bithorn Stadium has now hosted 49 Major League contests. The 16-inning thriller that resulted in a 2-1 Minnesota victory was the longest international regular season game in history. Previously, the 14-inning tilt between the Anaheim Angels and the Montreal Expos on June 5, 2003 held the record. With José Berríos and Eddie Rosario representing the Island on this year’s Twins roster, Minnesota has had 22 diff erent Puerto Rican natives play in the Club’s history (since 1961). For the Indians, both Francisco Lindor and Roberto Pérez hail from Puerto Rico. Across Baseaball, 19 Puerto Rican players were represented on Major League Opening Day rosters, its highest total since there were 20 in 2011. With a hit on Tuesday and a pair of hits on Wednesday night, Rosario became the ninth Puerto Rican native to record three hits at Hiram Birthorn. The 26-year-old joined Jose Vidro (33), Wil Cordero (11), Bengie Molina (8), Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar (5), Juan Gonzalez (4), Felipe Lopez (3) and Hall of Famer Iván Rodríguez (3). On the mound, Berríos became the fi rst native of the Island to toss 7.0-plus scoreless innings in a start, and also matched the record of innings pitched set by Javier Vazquez in 2003.
