Slash caused by forestry is dangerous to swimmers and surfers, he says. Sacha has suffered the frustration of surfboards being broken by forestry FEATURE debris in the sea and he knows of others who have been hit and hurt by wood in waves. Sacha spent about 26 hours creating the sculpture using branches he found on the beach, which he wove into a large sphere. He then used ropes and pulleys to INSIDE TODAY suspend it in the tree on the beachfront at Waikanae. This morning he served banana pancakes to his girlfriend in the sphere — which he has named “the Moon” — to celebrate her birthday. He is hoping to go one step further tonight by lighting it up with fairy lights as a romantic gesture. Gisborne District Council Journeys capital manager Darren Cox said the structure of the wharf had been impacted by several factors recently — high sea swells, forestry slash and a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in June. “The barrier was erected to keep people off this particular section of the wharf, as it has been discovered that the pile beneath it has gone,” said Mr Cox. “We’ve also made temporary repairs to some sections of the hand rail. Engineers have inspected the wharf to assess the damage and the council will soon receive a detailed report outlining the next steps,” Mr Cox said. Introduction INTRODUCTION New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has recently adopted a rugby strategy for 2018 – 2020. One of the challenges identified was Secondary School Rugby and how to address the many issues facing rugby within that environment. The alignment of Secondary School Rugby within the wider NZ Rugby system is also a consideration. NZR aims for a teenage rugby delivery system that allows for as many players who want to play to do so, in an environment that develops a life-long love of the game and strength of character, at the same time as providing aspirational and developmental pathways. These pathways start the process of preparing talented players to play in successful teams in black. NZR wanted the review to have a high degree of independence and following a contestable process, EdSol NZ, an educational consultancy company was contracted to carry out the work.

Copyright is owned by the Author of the thesis. Permission is given for a copy to be downloaded by an individual for the purpose of research and private study only. The thesis may not be reproduced elsewhere without the permission of the Author. James Cowan: The Significance of his Journalism Volume Three: ‘The White Slave’ (1906) By James Cowan Critical Edition Gregory Wood 2019 1 Introduction to the Critical Edition ‘The White Slave’ is firstly the story of a person, and secondly a partial history of the Taranaki Wars. This is the key point of difference between the serial and the later book version which significantly ramps up the historical elements of the story by incorporating the viewpoints of others from both sides. In contrast, ‘The White Slave’ is really a limited viewpoint compared to what is in the nine further chapters of the book version. The absence of those extra chapters in the serial is, I suggest, what makes ’The White Slave’ so much more realistic as an oral testimony, for it does not attempt to fill in the historical gaps that Bent would have not known about. Taranaki war history takes a back seat to the anthropological experience of Bent becoming an ‘outlander’, a ‘decivilised’ man, as Cowan put it in his summary of Bent in the final chapter. For, as mentioned in the thesis, from one angle the text chronicles what happens when a ‘civilised’ man returns to the wilderness to become a hunter-gatherer. What elements of his former civilised world would he miss? Would he survive in the ‘Crusoe’ tradition? Robinson Crusoe (1719) was written by Daniel Defoe and tells the story of a castaway who spends 28 years as a castaway on a remote tropical desert island, encountering cannibals, captives and mutineers before finally being rescued.
