The event was hosted by Tania Chambers, CEO of the Film and Television Office. Tania introduced a retrospective screening, which featured highlights of Yoram’s career from his early days of experimental film making in Israel through to excerpts from his box office successes such as Dot and the Kangaroo and Blinky Bill. Yoram’s latest project, a short film on his home town of Krakow, based on his late brother Nathan’s poetry, was also part of the exhibition, and Yoram’s most well known character, cheeky Koala Blinky Bill, got in a few words of congratulation (via the actress Robyn Moore). “Yoram Gross’ achievements across 60 years are well worth celebrating. 60 years in the business is an incredible milestone and the FTO is pleased to have been able to honour Yoram by hosting this event,” Tania Chambers said. Guests were able to purchase original hand painted backgrounds from former Yoram Gross productions with all proceeds donated to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Yoram Gross is internationally recognised as one of Australia's leading producers of quality children's animated programming. His many successes include Blinky Bill, Dot and the Kangaroo, Skippy, 15 other feature films and 20 completed television series. In 1995 Yoram Gross received the prestigious Order of Australia for his contribution to the Australian Film Industry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ‘LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION’ – THANKS TO MERRYN SPENCER For the last FTONEWS edition #213, the FTO received permission from Merryn Spencer to reproduce her report, ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ – Film Activity in Regional NSW’. However, in the production process the acknowledgement to reproduce this article in #213 was inadvertently removed from Merryn’s article. The FTO sincerely apologises to Merryn and gratefully acknowledges her kind generosity in allowing the FTO to distribute her work. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCTION INVESTMENT ROUND 17 - MAY 11 The latest deadline for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for this production round at the FTO is Close of Business Friday, May 11th 2007. The New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO), Film Victoria and the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) formed a strategic partnership in 2004 to secure places at No Borders held during the annual Independent Film Producer Market (IFP) in New York City. Three independent producers with strong, innovative film projects in advanced development will be selected by the FTO, Film Victoria and the NZFC to attend the market to showcase their project, network and explore finance and distribution prospects. Each producer (one from each territory) will attend round table discussions, social events, and one-on-one meetings with financiers, sales agents and international television buyers at the IFP. Tania Chambers, Chief Executive of the FTO, said: “A previous NSW participant in No Borders, CLUBLAND, will be released in the US on July 4. Producer Rosemary Blight found the No Borders experience extremely productive in introducing the project to the US market when she was financing the film, an experience shared last year by the creative team of SOUTH SOLITARY. Film Victoria CEO, Sandra Sdraulig, said: "For the creative teams behind Victorian projects FATHERLANDs and PEGGY, attendance at the No Borders Co-production Market in 2006 afforded their projects crucial access to the North American market. Each team met with over 20 interested companies and their projects benefited greatly from the forum. We're delighted to provide another Victorian producer with the opportunity to present their project at No Borders." Ruth Harley, NZFC Chief Executive Officer, said: "We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with the FTO, Film Vic and IFP this year. No Borders provides an excellent opportunity for New Zealand projects to access the North American market as well as the range of buyers and financers from other territories.” Producers from each territory who are interested in applying for this opportunity, should read the guidelines at: Web: http://film.vic.gov.au Web: http://www.nzfilm.co.nz/ Producers from NSW should download the guidelines and application forms from: Web: http://www.fto.nsw.gov.au/content.asp?content=3&Id=437 Applications will close on May 21st, 2007.
