SUNSHINE QUILTERS OF April 2019 S A N D I E G O Volume 39, Number 8 Needle & Thimble News President’s Message I am sure that we all went home filled with quilting inspiration after the March meeting. We saw so many quilts that were quilted by our dear Judi Sample; blocks that were made at the Lyn Mann workshop; coiled rope baskets that were made after our last sew in; show and tell quilts made by members; and beautiful quilts made by our speaker, Wendy Knight. We had several visitors at our last meeting. And a great time was had by all who attended. We are in the home stretch of our guild year now. Many thanks to Susan Cox and Connie Smith who vol- unteered to serve as the nominating committee this year. We will need to fill the full slate of officers this year. The nominating committee will be looking for volunteers to fill the positions that keep our guild run- ning smoothly. Filling a position is one of the easiest ways to meet other people in the guild and develop friendships. Most of the jobs require only a minimal time commitment. And it is always wonderful to get input from new people. Please consider how you can serve. Our own Sandi Delman and Kerry Marksbury will be presenting a trunk show for our April meeting. These women make such wonderful quilts. I am sure that the meeting will be a feast for your eyes. I look forward to seeing you all at the April meeting. Sincerely, Jennifer Phillips Remembering Judi Sample Candi Ravenscraft Sherri Necochea Several members brought quilts that had been quilted Connie Smith by Judi Sample and shared fun stories. Classes should be up in a few days with classes added as all the info comes in from the various teachers regarding their class. The teachers I have spoken to are passionate about their work and have a joy that will make the class so fun beside learning a new meth- od. Please sign up for a class or two, come to the show in August and enjoy yourself. Sandi Miller, Faculty San Diego Quilt Show April showers bring May flowers. I think we have had 3 months Refreshments of showers and lots of beautiful flowers. If you have an April birthday, it is time for you to bring snack! See you in a few weeks! Teresa and Bobbie To the Cuddle Crew: A big THANK YOU to all who have been working on the cuddle quilts. From the number of kits that have gone out, it appears that you are liking the patterns I have been using. Some of you have been changing out fabrics because you like something different. Perfectly fine with me. As long as they are getting done, life will be a bit better for a child that is having a lot of upsets in their life. That you are doing this for someone you will never meet shows the caliber of beautiful human beings that you are!!! Barbara Fletcher will bring kits, backs and batting's for the April meeting. I am eagerly anticipating the May meeting when I will return. I miss you all and the comradeship we share. Looks like it was a success! Connie Smith Sandi Delman Lorna Bisson Lyn Mann Workshop Members shared their blocks based upon their particular birth date 2019-2020 Opportunity Quilt Project Update Oh my! This is turning into one spec- tacular quilt. There are two more woolers to turn in their work that goes in the center, fourth corner and last border. I've heard the corner and last border are ready and waiting for me at our April meeting. I've trimmed up the X blocks with a few extra to change out color if need be. Certainly the scrutiny of the girls that are at the quilt retreat will help with this. Sisters, we do good work! -Sandi Delman FOR SALE: 221 Singer sewing machine, complete with case, $350.00.
