Addendum sheet for Cheddar Gorge Design Guide, March 2013 Cheddar Gorge Design Guide - adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document by Sedgemoor District Council on 27th March 2013 Advisory note The document had previously been adopted as “Supplementary Planning Guidance” in 1995. Whilst the national and local planning policy context has subsequently changed, and therefore some references within the document may be out-of-date, the Council considers that the design guidance at the heart of this document is still relevant to interpretation of policy – it remains capable of serving as a supplement to planning policies which reference “local character” / design matters etc. The Council has not at this stage sought to revise the document but readers are advised that specific references to national / local policy or guidance are likely to have been superseded and should be interpreted / substituted as appropriate. In particular: References to the “Mendip Hills Local Plan” and individual policies therein are superseded. References to any national Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) / Planning Policy Statement (PPS) will have been superseded by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) – the reference at page 16 to PPG19 has an equivalent at paragraphs 67 and 68 of the NPPF. Relevant regulations relating to advertisements are now The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007. The possibility of designating an “Area of Special Control of Advertisements”, which is referenced at page 22, was not pursued and therefore the normal consenting regime applies. The current version of “Outdoor advertisements and signs: a guide for advertisers” was published by DCLG in June 2007. Available online via the planning portal: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/advertssigns The “Cheddar Gorge Design Guide” contains information which is potentially relevant to the design and landscaping of new developments / landscape and visual impact assessment.
