NAX March Newsletter Thank you to everyone for a great season that saw our teams have a lot of success. You can watch highlights of the Midget Prep Championship game here. NAX Evaluation Camps are fast approaching as the 2005/06 Male and 2002-2004 Female dates are set for April 12-14. Midget Prep defenseman Marc Lajoie made his WHL debut in a playoff game March 28, 2019. Midget Prep forwards Dylan Guenther and Zack Ostapchuk made their WHL Playoff debuts this month, having made their regular season debuts earlier in the year. Congratulations to Michaella Kibblewhite on committing to the NAIT Ooks womens hockey team for the 2019/20 season. In 28 games with the Female Preps Michaella recorded 16 points. (Photo courtesy of the NAIT Ooks) Midget Prep defenseman Carter Spenst has signed his Letter of Intent with the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines. In three seasons with NAX Carter has tallied 38 points in 73 regular season games, and won two CSSHL Championships with the Midget Preps. Congratulations to the following NAX players on winning the following CSSHL Awards: • Top Defenceman Elite 15 o Charlie Wright • Top Freshman Midget Prep o Dylan Guenther • Midget Prep Most Valuable Player o Matthew Savoie The following NAX players were named to their respective divisions All-Academic Team: • Matthew Cesarz – Bantam Prep • Noelle Mason – Female Prep • William Lam – Elite 15s • Carter Myrol – Midget Prep NAX goalie coach Allen York backstopped the Innisfail Eagles to the Allan Cup as his team was crowned the Senior AAA Provincial Champions. 74 former NAX players currently find themselves on junior or university/college rosters this season with the following breakdown: • 25 AJHL • 11 WHL • 10 U Sports • 8 ACAC • 3 CapJHL/KIJHL • 2 AJFHL/ACHA/MJAHL/NWJHL • 1 ACHA D2/NCAA I/NCAA III/BCHL/WSHL/VIJHL Congratulations to defenseman Lindsay Gillis for being named to the 2018-19 ACHA First Team All-American team. Lindsay played for NAX in the 2016-17 season recording 5 points in 24 regular season and playoff games. Former NAX forward Mitchell Verenka has committed to the Drayton Valley Thunder for the 2019/20 season. Verenka spent the 2016/17-2017/18 seasons with NAX, tallying 40 points in 62 regular season games. Congratulations to Sherwood Park Crusaders forward Carter Savoie and defenseman Michael Benning on being named to the AJHL Viterra All-Rookie team. Savoie was also selected as the 2018/19 AJHL Rookie of the Year and named to the AJHL Viterra All-League Team after leading all rookies in points with 73, good enough for fifth in the league, while Benning lead all rookie defensemen in scoring with 61 points in 60 games. Both players were selected as the Crusaders Rookie of the Year Recipient while Benning won the teams Defenceman of the Year Award. Savoie and Benning spent the 2017/18 season with the NAX Elite 15s helping the team to an undefeated regular season and a CSSHL Championship. Calgary Hitmen defenseman Luke Prokop won his teams Chrysler Scholastic Player Award. Luke was part of the 2017/18 NAX Midget Prep team that won the CSSHL Championship. Former NAX Midget Prep forward Connor McClennon was named the Kootenay Ice Rookie of the Year after totaling 28 points in 44 games. Connor was also named the Ice March Player of the Month after recording six points in six games. .
