Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Award $58,000 in Scholarships January 27th, 2016 - The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society are proud to announce the recipients of $58,000 in scholarships for the 2015-2016 season. The annual scholarships are awarded to Junior hockey players, alumni, trainers, and on-ice officials. Twelve AJHL alumni and one AJHL linesman are amongst this year's recipients. The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society scholarship program has awarded $759,000 in scholarships since it began in 1983. Charles S. Noble Scholarship The Charles S. Noble Scholarship is awarded to players and alumni taking full-time courses at post-secondary schools in Alberta. The scholarships are presented on behalf of the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund and the Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarship Program. Charles S. Noble Scholarship Recipients: 1. Lukas Biensch – Spruce Grove Saints* 2. Brett Njaa – Camrose Kodiaks* 3. Dakota Zaharichuk – Drumheller Dragons* 4. Robert England – Calgary NW Warriors Wolfpack 5. Calvin Giese – Calgary Jr. B Canucks 6. Tanner Hellquist – St. Paul Canadiens 7. James Patterson – Edmonton Royals 8. Grayson Soprovich – Vegreville Rangers 9. Paul Turko – Calgary NW Warriors Wolfpack Mark Goodkey Scholarship The highest Charles S. Noble Scholarship is the Mark Goodkey Scholarship, which honours the late Fort Saskatchewan and University of Alberta Golden Bears defenceman. Mark Goodkey Scholarship Recipient: • Ceanna Maldaner – Calgary Titans The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society would like to acknowledge the Province of Alberta's student Aid Department for their support in providing matching funds for the Charles S. Noble Scholarships. Nickerson Family Scholarship The Nickerson Family Scholarship is awarded to honour the wife of long-time Fort McMurray Oil Barons’ supporter Dr. Ken Nickerson. Nickerson Family Scholarship Recipient: • Darrin Craig – Edmonton Northstars Al McDonald Memorial Scholarship The Al McDonald Memorial Scholarship recognizes long-time Sherwood Park General Manager and Co-Owner Al McDonald. Al McDonald Memorial Scholarship Recipient: • Redford Swan – Bonnyville Pontiacs* Richard Warwick Memorial Scholarship The Richard Warwick Memorial Scholarship is presented in honour of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons alumnus. Richard Warwick Memorial Scholarship Recipient: • Tyler Weiss – Edmonton Northstars Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarship The Friends of Alberta Junior Hockey Society Scholarships are awarded to players, game officials and therapists who distinguish themselves in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
