The 2018 season did not quite go as many expected. Austin Peay entered the season ranked in the FCS Top 25 for the fi rst time in program history after a breakout 8-4 campaign in 2017.

The biggest difference in 2018 vs. 2017 was the team’s record in one- possession games: in 2017, the Governors were an incredible 5-0 in contests decided by seven points or fewer. In 2018, they were 0-2 in one-score games, and also fell at Jacksonville State after trailing by just two going into the fourth quarter.

Despite fi nishing the year with a 5-6 record, the Governors ended on a high note by downing Murray State in impressive fashion, 48-23, in the season fi nale. Over the course of two seasons, the Govs put together 13 victories – the fi rst time they had accomplished that feat in a two-year span since Kentel Williams 1983-84. Heck, from 2008-16, the Govs combined for just 14 victories. With victories over Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech, the Govs also retained RUNNING BACKS the Sgt.
