The accused were identified as Pradeep Rawat (the master- mind), his aide Imran who had reached the shop in burqa, and their aide Sandeep Gupta who had helped Imran in fleeing the scene in his car (Ford Figo). The police recovered the looted ornaments, the getaway car, the burqa and the snickers that Imran was wearing while commit- ting the loot. The trio owned up their crime. In the open-and-shut case, the police had a strong doubt on Pradeep, who worked in the shop owned by Aryan Soni. The police interrogated Pradeep who spilled the beans. Later, his aides were nabbed. Around 11:30 am on Saturday, the miscreant clad in a burqa reached the jeweller’s shop when Soni’s employee Pradeep Rawat was all alone. Pradeep had told the police that he mistook the miscreant as a customer and displayed earrings and rings on being asked for the same. All of a sudden, the man whipped out a pistol from the purse which he was carrying and trained it on Pradeep, asking the latter to keep all the items in it. The miscreant then tied both the hands of Pradeep with a tape and fled the scene. He looted 12 rings, 10 gold chains, 10 lockets, 11 pairs of ear- rings and 24 jhumkas. In a CCTV footage, the miscreant was seen climbing down the shop hurriedly and disappear- ing into a lane. He was also seen wearing snickers. Pradeep had further told the police that he cut the tape with which his hands had been tied and then informed neighbouring shopowners.
