Born in Bristol, she gained popularity by self-releasing a trilogy of EPs (Fools, Sinners and Liars) while studying at school. Her debut album Isn't It Strange? was released on August 26, 2016 after signing an agreement with Island Records and Universal Music Group. In October 2016, she admitted that she would no longer release music; However, in August 2018, Aquilina announced that she would resume releasing the music. Aquilina was born on June 23, 1995 in Bristol, the age of her parents from Malta. Her musical origins began with her playing the piano at school. She has been sing since she was eight years old and has been playing the piano since she was nine years old. When she was thirteen, she attended her first outdoor mic event and sang Lady Gaga's Poker Face while her mother filmed her. Aquilina's manager (at the time), Ryan Walter, came across one of the videos and they started working with each other, putting together the first EP of Aquilina Fools. I uploaded the video to my Facebook page just as a kind of test to see what people think and my manager (Ryan) noticed my first video within two days of uploading, although it had less than 4 views, I was very lucky. Celebrity supporters include Perez Hilton, who posted a blog post praising Aquilina in January 2012. In December 2011, Aquilina uploaded a cover cover of Brenda Russell's song Get Here, which she recorded at home to raise money for the Meningitis Trust. She said she was trying to raise as much money as possible for a good cause, especially at Christmas. In August 2012, Aquilina announced her debut EP Fools through her label Interlude Artists, which was released on iTunes on October 22, 2012. It reached the Top 50 iTunes singles chart in its first week on pre-orders alone. To promote her EP, Aquilina performed an eight-song set in Tromso, Norway, and was spotted by a Norwegian who called Aquilin a great, talented songwriter who plays the piano to accompany her beautiful voice. In September 2012, Aquilina announced on her Facebook and Twitter accounts that she would be headlining her first UK tour in early 2013. Aquilina has gained considerable popularity in Malta since the release of her debut EP Fools. It topped the Maltese iTunes chart, above Adele, and has been featured in several Maltese newspapers and websites and on Malta's National TV channel, TVM, since October 2012. The title track from Fools received its first British national radio performance on BBC Radio 1 on 15 October 2012 on the BBC Introducing show. On 15 August 2013, it was announced that Aquilina would headline the BBC Introducing Stage at the 2013 Reading and Leeds Festival. She also played her first-ever show in the United States on August 21, 2013, when she played a sold-out headline show at Manhattan's Rockwood Hall. On March 10, 2014, Aquilina released her latest EP Liars in the Fools, Sinners, Liars EP. After asking to hear Lauren Liars' third EP, which she recorded and sold with her manager, Island Records and Universal Music Group signed Aquilina as a new artist. In June 2014, Akilina collaborated with The Scottish band Prides on one of her tracks, Strong Enough. As of October 2014, Aquilin's EPs trilogy has sold more than 100,000 copies. Aquilina also put on a mini tour of the three UK shows as a special thank you to her fans for their support. Dates included Manchester, Bristol and London, where the mini-tour ended. Aquilina's song Time to Say Goodbye was featured in the sixth season of the British drama Downton Abbey. Aquilina released her debut album Isn't It Strange? led by Island Records and Universal Music Group on August 26, 2016 (Anne Kosova-Modling). On October 10, 2016, Akilin announced on her Twitter and Facebook accounts that she would no longer write music or perform for herself, and that it was not strange? will be her last album. Aquilina returned to music in 2018 with Psycho from the EP, which is due out in 2019. In March 2019, she released the single Tobacco in my Sheets, and in October 2020, she released a single called Swap Places Artistry Critical Reception Music, reviewing Sound Of The Day, praised Aquiline's vocals in the cover of Lana Del Rey's Born To Die: She took this cover and blew it up, and took it to another level. She convinced me that with her very touching and emotional feeling to her voice, she could change the course of many up-and-coming musicians. She's just in her room with a microphone and keyboard, and there's something to be said, imagine her in a real studio with better equipment. This girl can be a force on any with whom she will sign. Song and Lauren remind me of the beautiful Adele. Adele has a very powerful voice and know when she's in the room. Lauren has that presence with her beautiful voice and amazing talent. Fortitude writer Maxi Molotov-Smith praised Akilova's musical approach and praised her third EP Liars, five of the five stars in the rankings. Praising, Lauren's sound is a beautifully crafted soul-inflexet piano pop (a sound that Sarah Bareilles, Chantal Kreviazuk and Regina Spector are known to dabble in), which conjures up the uplifting atmosphere, honey-sweet vocals and some of the wisest lyrics that any teenage songwriter has ever written. Aquilin's influence has gripped many artists on her YouTube channel and on her live performances, including Bon Iver, Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding.
