INSPIREEQUIPIMAGINE Fort Bend ISD is made up of a dedicated team committed to ensuring each student achieves his or her full potential, and I look forward to working with you as we continue to fulfill our district mission during the 2016‐17 school year. Whether your role is in the classroom, in the lunch line, on a bus route or in an office, each of you will be making a difference in the lives of our students, as well as your colleagues. Our focus is on student achievement, and to fulfill our mission, we must work together to continuously improve our organization and our own professional growth. Fort Bend ISD is the largest employer in the county, with approximately 10,000 dedicated employees who provide services to nearly 74,000 students. We have 75 schools and 15 support sites spanning 170 square miles. Our newest school, Anne Sullivan Elementary, has joined the Fort Bend ISD family this year, and we are planning to add four more schools during the next two years. As one of the most diverse districts in the nation, Fort Bend ISD brings students and colleagues together in a learning environment conducive to broadening minds and hearts – and we embrace this. The quality of education in Fort Bend County has long been a driving force to attract families to the area. Families from around the world move here daily, drawn by FBISD’s reputation of providing students with a quality education. eAs th seventh largest school district in Texas, FBISD serves more than 73,000 students representing various nationalities and ethnicities from around the world. FBISD currently has 75 campuses: 11 high schools, 14 middle schools, 47 elementary campuses and three unique secondary campuses to address the academic and vocational interests of students.e Th District is also the largest employer in Fort Bend County, with approximately 10,000 full‐time employees. Suggestions for additions and improvements are welcome and may be sent to the Human Resources Department. This handbook is neither a contract nor a substitute for the official District policy manual. It is not intended to alter the at‐will status of non‐contract employees in any way. Rather, it is a guide to, and a brief explanation of, District policies and procedures related to employment. District policies and procedures can change at any time, and these changes shall supersede any handbook provisions that are not compatible with the change. As the District provides updated policy information, it is the employee’s responsibility to read and abide by the changes. One Family…Many Faces In Fort Bend ISD, recognizing and appreciating cultural differences is a way of life. Recognized as one of the most diverse school districts in Texas and in the nation, FBISD currently serves a student population of 32.80% Black/African American, 27.22% Hispanic/Latino, 21.61% Asian, 15.29% White, 2.63% Two or More Races, 0.32% American Indian/Alaskan Native and 0.13% Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander. As a multicultural school district, our students represent countries from around the world and speak more than 90 different languages and dialects. The Growth Continues! Fort Bend ISD spans 170 square miles and is located in the northeast part of Fort Bend County, just southwest of Houston and Harris County. The District maintains more than 1,200 acres of land, 76 schools, and 13 other sites. The District encompasses the cities of Missouri City, Sugar Land, Richmond, Arcola and Meadows Place, a small portion of Houston and the communities of Clodine, DeWalt, Rosharon and Fresno. To serve a growing population, Fort Bend ISD has 76 campuses (11 high schools, 14 middle schools, 47 elementary campuses, and three specialized campuses to address various vocational interests and special learning needs.
