1 INTRODUCTION

Denodo is a leader in Data technologies that allow to integrate data from distributed and heterogeneous enterprise systems to provide a secure virtualized unified data layer.

The Denodo Platform 5.5 Quickstart VM provides an easy and fast way to start using the Denodo Platform in your environment, mainly for evaluation, training and development purposes but also for deployment of final assets.

This manual assumes you are familiar with management either on VirtualBox or VMware environments. Denodo Platform 5.5 QuickStart VM Manual 20150330 4 of 11

2 DENODO QUICKSTART VM CONTENTS

The installed is CentOS 6.6 x64 ( http :// www . centos . org /). It has not been customized beyond basic configuration so please refer to the documentation from CentOS for any question in the configuration and management of the operating system.

The “root” user password is “denodo”.

The Denodo Platform 5.5 is installed under /opt/denodo folder. The Denodo Platform services run as the “denodo” user (whose password is “denodo”).

No other relevant software is included. Denodo Platform 5.5 QuickStart VM Manual 20150330 5 of 11

3 DENODO QUICKSTART VM DEPLOYMENT You can can download the Denodo Platform QuickStart VM from the Denodo Support Site ( http :// support . denodo .com) under “Installers” section.

The Denodo Platform QuickStart VM is built onto standard OVA format and it can be imported into VMware products like Player, Workstation or ESXi, and also on Oracle VM VirtualBox.

It is recommended to install VirtualBox additions (or VMWare tools) to get a better experience, like a full and responsive desktop.

This VM requires VT-x/AMD-V to be enabled in the host computer, so some configuration in your computer’s BIOS may be needed before it can be started. Refer to your virtualization software for more details.

3.1 MEMORY CONFIGURATION SETTINGS Denodo QuickStart VM is configured by default with 4GB of memory for server environments. So if your physical memory available is less than 5GB you should adjust the virtual machine memory configuration to a lower value before starting it. Refer to your virtualization software for more detail.

3.2 NETWORK CONFIGURATION SETTINGS Denodo QuickStart VM is configured to dynamically set the network configuration every time it starts using DHCP Network Protocol.

3.2.1 VMware Workstation / Player network settings The default configuration created by VMware Player includes a mix of network interfaces that may not work correctly. You can check what real device bridges the Denodo VM network interface. Be sure that only a real and physical device is configured (not virtual devices like those that are created by some software, like OpenVPN or VirtualBox). 3.2.2 Laptop with ethernet and wifi interfaces If you use a laptop with both a wifi and an ethernet interfaces enabled, the Denodo QuickStart VM connectivity might fail because your physical default interface changes dynamically. Refer to your virtualization software, you can setup a non-bridge network interface for Denodo QuickStart VM or turn off your wifi connection.

3.2.3 Shared folders settings You can setup a shared folder connection to a server in your network and transfer files to your Denodo Quickstart VM. Under Gnome Desktop, open “Places > Connect to Server” menu and select “Windows share”. Setup your connection with server name, share, folder and access credentials. Alternatively you can transfer files between your physical computer and Denodo QuickStart VM using your virtualization software: ● mount a local folder on Denodo QuickStart VM ● plug an usb disk on Denodo QuickStart VM (for more information refer to your virtualization software documentation).

3.3 DEPLOYMENT ON ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX You will need Oracle VM VirtualBox installed ( http :// www . .org). Then you can just import the downloaded Denodo QuickStart VM.

3.4 DEPLOYMENT ON VMWARE You will need a VMware ( http :// www . .com) software installed, such as VMWare Player, Workstation or ESXi. Then you can just open the downloaded Denodo QuickStart VM.

During the VM import, the VMWare player may raise a warning about VM compliance. Just press Retry to continue with the import. Denodo Platform 5.5 QuickStart VM Manual 20150330 8 of 11

3.4.1 VMware bridge network settings Vmware setups by default the bridge interface with a set of interfaces that may not work correctly. If your setup does not have correct network access you should check your network settings.

3.4.2 VMware ESXi deployment You have to convert denodo-vm (virtualbox based) in a vmware vm. The simplest way to do that is using vmware software:

1. Deploy denodo-vm onto vmware player in a pc 2. Install vmware converter in that pc 3. Run vmware converter 4. Select File -> New -> Convert Machine and select vmware player denodo vm file (a file named denodo55-centos6-amd64.vmx, probably located in c:\users\\Documents\Virtual Machines) 5. Select as Destination System: type = 'VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine' and write your credentials to access an esxi server 6. Press next until wizards ends (you can setup a lot of details more about hardware and vm settings) 7. Access to your esxi and start denodo vm Denodo Platform 5.5 QuickStart VM Manual 20150330 9 of 11

4 POST-INSTALLATION TASKS

4.1 INSTALL OS INTEGRATION TOOLS Both VMWare and VirtualBox provide a set of tools that improve the user experience when using a virtual machine, with a better integration of user input from the host operating system in the guest operating system, among others.

If you are using VMWare it is highly recommended to install the VMWare Tools that match the version of VMWare that you are using.

If you are using VirtualBox we strongly recommend for you to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions.

4.2 DENODO PLATFORM CONTROL CENTER STARTUP When the Denodo QuickStart VM starts, a gnome desktop is automatically displayed.

Double-click on Denodo Platform 5.5 icon to open the Denodo Platform Control Center.

4.3 DENODO LICENSE FILE INSTALLATION Before starting to use the Denodo Platform you need to install your Denodo Platform license file. You can get your Denodo license files from your account on the Denodo Support Site ( http :// support . denodo .com).

The license that is currently installed is displayed in the Denodo Platform Control Center, in the Help page, clicking the License Information link.

The Denodo license file should be locally accessible during the license installation process so you can: ● save the Denodo License File in a shared folder accessible by the Denodo QuickStart VM (refer to your VM player documentation for configuration); or ● transfer the Denodo License File to the virtual machine (by FTP or any other method) to the home folder of the “denodo” user.

Finally, once the Denodo License File is locally accessible, it can be installed from the Denodo Platform Control Center, in the Help page, clicking the Install License link, navigating to the appropriate folder and selecting the Denodo License File.

4.4 DENODO PLATFORM UPDATES You can check the installed updates in the Denodo Control Center by clicking the Update icon.

You can look for new Denodo Platform Update available downloads in the Denodo Support Site ( http :// support . denodo .com), under your user account. Denodo Platform 5.5 QuickStart VM Manual 20150330 10 of 11

4.5 DENODO PLATFORM SERVICES STARTUP Once a Denodo License File is installed, you can start the Denodo Platform components from the Denodo Control Center.

For example, you can click the VDP icon, start the Virtual Data Port Server, and then start the Virtual Data Port Administration Tool using the user “admin”, password “admin” and URI “//localhost:9999/admin” (admin database) for connecting to the server.

4.6 DENODO PLATFORM FIRST STEPS If this is your first time using the Denodo Platform we recommend visiting your account in the Denodo Support Site ( http :// support . denodo .com), where the Denodo Platform documentation and tutorials are available. 5 KNOWN LIMITATIONS As the Denodo Platform is installed on Centos the Denodo ITPilot-Microsoft Internet Explorer integration cannot be used (as this is Windows-only). This makes the sequence recording and extraction example assignment unavailable. ITPilot Wrappers will only run correctly if configured to use Denodo Browser.
