On behalf of Michigan Opera Theatre, welcome to your opera house. I am delighted that you could join us, and hope that this will be one of many visits to the Detroit Opera House - the latest addition to Detroit's celebrated Theatre District. Although the Detroit Opera House remams a masterpiece m progress, I invite you to experience the grandeur of this classic American theater in its nearlY'completed state. From the grand staircase, adorned by a stunning 3,000 piece crystal chandelier, to the hand-crafted proscenium arch, much of the original 1922 elaborate interior design has been lovingly and faithfully restored to its former splendor. The newly constructed 75,000 square foot stage (among the largest in North America), state-of-the-art orchestra pit (large enough to ~ccommodate nearly 100 musicians), and rich acoustical and visual properties make this grand old theater one of the most exciting and coveted in the world. The grand opening of the Detroit Opera House last April was the realization of a twenty-five year dream to provide our community with a world-class facility ideally suited for grand opera and ballet. We are pleased that this magnificent theatre can also play host to the most spectacular national touring productions available. In years to come, hundreds of productions will grace our stage. Through its diversity and uniqueness of programming, the Detroit Opera House will greatly enhance the cultural fabric of our city and Southeastern Michigan. This glorious theater would not be possible if it were not for the support of hundreds of individuals, like yourself, committed to the dream of a world-class opera house for Detroit. While the Detroit Opera House is now functioning, or operable, the fund-raising process continues. Ther~ are many ways to get involved! Whether you underwrite a seat, buy a brick or make a contribution (please see page 11), you are ensuring the completion of your opera house, a place to enjoy the best in opera, dance, musical theater, variety programming and special events. I hope you enjoy your visit at the Detroit Opera House, and look forward to hosting you in years to come . David DiChiera, General Director Enjoy the show!
