He moved to Maine when he was eleven years old and lived in Portland, Saco, Cape Elizabeth, and then at the time of this interview, Edgecomb. He went to college at Westland in Connecticut and then to Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania for his graduate degree in city government. He got a grant between his sophomore and junior years of college that allowed him to study government in Portland, Maine and this introduced him to John Menario and his future employment with the city of Portland. -

Downloaded from http://hdl.handle.net/10072/48836 Griffith Research Online https://research-repository.griffith.edu.au Desiring Dexter: the pangs and pleasures of serial killer body technique Stephanie Green1 School of Humanities, Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia Abstract The television series Dexter uses the figure of appealing monstrosity to unfold troubled relationships between corporeality, spectatorship and desire. Through a plastic-wrapped display of body horror, lightly veiled by suburban romance, Dexter turns its audience on to the consuming sensations of blood, death and dismemberment while simultaneously alluding to its own narrative and ethical contradictions. The excitations of Dexter are thus encapsulated within a tension between form and content as ambivalent and eroticised desire; both for heroic transgression and narrative resolution. Arguably, however, it is Dexter’s execution of a carefully developed serial killer body technique which makes this series so compelling. Through an examination of Dexter and his plotted body moves, this paper explores the representations of intimacy and murderous identity in this contemporary example of domestic screen horror entertainment. What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. [Laughs] Other than that, it's pretty loose going around the table—and this will be the order in which we'll also speak—Chuck Neblett, Hollis Watkins, Worth Long, Candie Carawan, Bettie Mae Fikes. I could say things like, from Carbondale, Illinois and Mississippi and Worth Long: Atlanta. Cobb: Durham, North Carolina. Tennessee and Alabama, I'm not gonna do all of that. Legends of OSU Gymnastics, October 23, 2014 Title “Mary Law Looks Back” Date October 23, 2014 Location Dilg residence, Portland, Oregon. Summary In interview 3, Mary Law discusses her family background and childhood growing up in the Northwest, her decision to attend OSU, and her early memories of adjusting to the college environment. In recalling her years at OSU, Law reflects on courses and professors that proved influential, the progression of her studies as an Education major, her getting married while an undergraduate, and her social life as a student athlete. Law also notes her involvement in service projects and her relationship with athletics coach and administrator Sylvia Moore. From there, the session focuses more intently on the environment faced by gymnasts at OSU in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Law shares her memories of her teammates as well as their practice schedule, training and nutrition regimens. She also speaks of her personal evolution as a gymnast and of memorable competitions, including her participation in the World University Games, held in Romania in 1981, as well as a trip that the OSU squad took to Japan while she was an undergraduate. The interview concludes with Law's reflections on the impact of Title IX and some final thoughts on her college experience. Jackie Ayers was born and raised in Nashville, Arkansas, and then went to school in Essex, Missouri. He describes some of his experiences growing up, as well as his family history. He explains that he ended up at UF because he was recruited by Rod McDavis, who insisted that UF was the “Stanford of the South,” and then he worked a variety of administrative jobs at UF for a number of years. He also speaks highly of what it was like to work with former UF president John Lombardi, and he shares his reflections on the student murders in Gainesville in 1990. Dr. Ayers also reconciles his experiences with racism at UF and wider Gainesville with his belief that UF offers a strong foundation for current and future students. Can you tell us about the first time you met Doctor King? 00:00:12:00 XERNONA CLAYTON: I met Doctor King in- I don’t remember the years, but, you know, early on in his career he was a Baptist minister who attended the Baptist conventions, as did many ministers. I was very active in the church and went to the conventions and one year I met him. But at that time, he really had not achieved fame necessarily. He was a young minister and I remember how vibrant he was, but it wasn’t really that memorable. It was later on that I kind of put all of this together. But I do remember real fondly and clearly the first time I had a real personal contact with him and what I remember about him is that his sincerity was apparent, his love was obvious and his dedication was very, very, very apparent. He talked so passionately about the work he wanted to do.
