It deals with the stories of men and women of like passions as ourselves. In this study we shall be looking at uncommon or unpopular characters with the aim of learning salient lessons from them. This is the reason why it is tagged SILENT SAINTS. All characters of scripture are GOLD MINE of lessons and experiences if we remember the fact that they lived similar lives like us. They had troubles, challenges, pains, deprivations. They however triumphed by their FAITH. LESSON 1: THE ELECT LADY: II JOHN 1:1 - 13 Nameless PECULIARITIES 1. HER FAITH, FOUNDATION & FOLLOW UP: Elect of God. V 1,1Cor. 3:11-14. 2. DESCRIPTION: LADY-Typifies a higher grade of woman. Poise, dignity in speech , conduct, achievements and exploits. The word lady used for a)Princess, suitor of a princess, b) woman of social distinction or position, c) wife of a man who has received a title or honor. THIS LADY in question earned the title. 3. STRENGHT: No mention of her husband. Perhaps a widow or a single mother. Though without a husband or father figure for her children, she did not focus on the rough side of life she had experienced. She ensured that what others would use as excuse for non- performance, failure or complain became a tool of work to excel. She turned her SCARS into STARS. 4. Farrugia, S.J., Paulist Press, New York, 1991. 1 ABSTRACT Peter Steele S.J. is a highly significant figure in contemporary scholarship, religious sensibility and poetic achievement. His work is available in a very wide range of writings, some published, much in archival situations. He matters by virtue of being a distinguished Australian academic, being widely published as a poet, and having theological and religious significance in at least three continents as a central figure in the Society of Jesus in Australia and New Zealand since the 1970’s. The challenge of addressing Steele’s achievement lies in the fact that his religious insights form the basis of his poetic, academic and ethical imagination. The thesis investigates Steele’s unifying vision as it is expressed by him in the many ways he encounters the contemporary world. It attempts to identify his position as expressing itself in his perception of the Divinity, particularly in terms of the concept of radiance. -

Focusing on black, Indian, and Spanish American women, this dissertation argues that such liaisons were far more prevalent, institutionalized, and tolerated than historians have previously argued. Although such phenomena as black concubines, tribally organized Indian marriages, and land-rich Mexican wives have been separately examined, no single study has put them together and questioned their particular prevalence at a specific time in American history. This dissertation argues that the relationships white men formed with non- white women follow certain patterns that evidence a sexual “crisis” in antebellum America. Taking evidence from court records, periodicals, diaries, letters, travelogues and fiction, this study reveals that non-white women and their relations with white men were often portrayed in astonishingly similar ways. -

Rome attracted people from everywhere, so many of the people named here were known to Paul from Jerusalem and his travels in Asia and Macedonia. How many of us know ten or twenty people in a church in the capital city of our country? Do we even keep track of other Christians we know or have known in our own church? This chapter is an amazing testimonial to how much people mattered to Paul. I. This decade was marked by a tendency of artists towards political and social commitment, a time when the reconstruction of American .. socie~y,~nq. the menace of Fascism was a cause celebre to which artists 90u1.d rally. American artists had always been interested in chang!!lgsociety, or at least exposing the evils they perceived. "but the 1930' s saw a new kind of commitment and dedication. The economic breakdown caused by the depression had invo~ed a search for social alternatives much more intense than the .complaoency of the prosperou;, 1920' s had witnessed. -, . " ' .. "" ,;; To many writers of the twenties, the sooial enemies were straw ~ '. ; -., men, the Puritans and the Philistines, and not, significantly, the SystemWhieh had nurtured them. To those writers who were - disgusted by the emptiness they perceived in American during- , ' I this decade~ escape lay simply in flight to the bohemianism of Greenwich Village or the cultural richness of Pari~. The only time the twenties had witnessed a consolidation of the artistic-intellectual community was the rally to defend Sacco and Venzettl. It treats the nascent genre of films as attempts to recenter white masculinity in the national imagination while navigating the increased visibility of this subject position, one that maintains dominance in society through its invisibility as superordinate standard of manhood.
