For Immediate Release, Contact: Dan McDonnell May 8, 2019 University of Southern Indiana | 812-465-1121 | [email protected] GVSU’s Lipovsky, Truman's Reisinger nab Midwest Region’s top honors ALLENDALE, Mich.—For the second consecutive season, Grand Valley State University senior pitcher Allison Lipovsky and Truman State University senior outfielder Christa Reisinger have been named the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association Midwest Region Softball Pitcher and Player of the Year, respectively, in a vote by the Midwest Region’s sports information directors. Lipovsky, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2018 and 2019, is currently 26-2 record, a 0.81 ERA, a .146 opponent batting average and 271 strikeouts. Her efforts propelled the Lakers to a 44-8 overall record this year and, for the second consecutive season, helped Grand Valley State to the GLIAC regular-season and tournament titles as well as the top seed in this week’s NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament. The Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season, Reisinger is earning D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year accolades after leading the GLVC and ranking third in the nation with a .564 batting average. She currently has 10 doubles, five triples, 13 home runs and 36 RBIs, all while leading the GLVC in runs scored (73) and stolen bases (58). She leads the nation in runs scored and is second in stolen bases. Reisinger’s efforts helped the Bulldogs to a 31-17 overall record and to their 17th NCAA II Tournament appearance in program history. Lipovsky and Reisinger were joined on the All-Midwest Region first team by Grand Valley State sophomore first baseman Nikoma Holmen and freshman third baseman Lydia Goble; Southern Indiana junior pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt and senior second baseman Claire Johnson; Missouri-St. Louis junior pitcher Andee Tiffee; Trevecca Nazarene junior shortstop MaKray Odom and senior catcher Mary Collins; Drury junior outfielder Jacy Ummel; Findlay junior outfielder Rebecca Harvey; Ashland junior designated player Dayna Denner; Wayne State senior utility player (non-pitcher) Hannah McClounie; and Maryville junior utility player (pitcher) Alyssa Callans. This marks the fourth straight year that Lipovsky and Reisinger have earned All-Midwest Region honors. All first-team honorees will advance to the national ballot for All-America consideration. Earning second-team All-Midwest Region accolades was University of Indianapolis sophomore pitcher Halie Watters and junior pitcher Lauren Honkomp; Malone freshman pitcher Kelsey Byers and sophomore catcher Bailey Byers; Missouri-St. Louis senior first baseman Chelsea Martinez; Davenport freshman second baseman Gabby Palazollo; Maryville junior shortstop Jaclyn Pasakarnis and sophomore outfielder Hannah Tolley; Ohio Dominican junior third baseman Landry Slider; Grand Valley State sophomore outfielder Bailey Thatcher; Wayne State sophomore outfielder Bryanna Kressler and senior utility player (pitcher) Megan Guitar; Drury designated player Megan Holmes; and Trevecca Nazarene senior utility player (non-pitcher) Bailey Alexander. The NCAA II Midwest Region #1 Tournament is scheduled for May 9-11 in Allendale, Michigan, while the NCAA II Midwest Region #2 Tournament is scheduled for May 9-11 in St. Louis, Missouri.
