Penha, 51, may not have sporting muscles, but she’s proved her strength in taking on Rio’s powerful may- or and the Olympic construction machine in refusing to leave the place she calls home. The area, called Vila Autodromo, was a working class favela where Penha had lived 23 years before the authorities said the whole neigh- borhood had to be torn down to make way for the Olympic Park. After long resistance, nearly everyone agreed, in many cases swapping their homes for generous financial com- pensation or a place in a newly built housing complex. But Penha and a handful of others stayed on, standing their ground as the streets around them were razed. Against all odds they won: Penha’s original house was knocked down but the government agreed to build her a new dwelling nearby. “I am happy because what I wanted above all was to stay in this community and we were victorious,” Penha, a cleaning lady, says. However the long drama came at huge cost. “Out of the 600 families that used to be here there are only 20 now,” she said amid noise and dust from Colombia’s Nairo Quintana trains prior to the start of the 17 km individual time-trial, the eighteenth stage of construction on her house. the 103rd edition of the Tour de France cycling race on July 21, 2016 between Sallanches and Megeve, French Alps. — AFP Thorn in mayor’s side Mayor Eduardo Paes is used to getting his own way when it comes to staging the Olympics, which start August Rain not shine the key 5. PARIS-NICE 2021: THE BATTLE LINES START TO BE DRAWN ©A.S.O./F.Boukla Key points: Ø The 2021 edition of Paris-Nice, which will start on Sunday 7th March in the Yvelines department, will give a number of insights into the form of some of the main players in elite cycling pack, at a stage of the season when the indicators are still vague. Ø For all that, the battle has already commenced between Jumbo-Visma and Ineos Grenadiers: for the first time on the Race to the Sun, the Dutch team will be lining up Primoz Roglic, who has not raced competitively since his triumph on the Vuelta, while the British squad will be placing their hopes in the winner of the Giro d’Italia, Tao Geoghegan Hart. Ø Title holder Max Schachmann and his Bora-Hansgrohe colleagues as well as the DSM Team of Jai Hindley will be looking to join in the contest for victory, while David Gaudu, among others, will be defending French hopes of success. Ø Beyond the stakes of the general classification, stage wins on the sprint finishes will be especially sought after. Arnaud Démare will be up against tough rivals such as Sam Bennett, Michael Matthews, John Degenkolb, Giacomo Nizzolo, Nacer Bouhanni and Bryan Coquard. Each season’s beginning brings with it a number of questions and uncertainties. This is even more true as the start to Paris- Nice 2021 approaches, with postponements and cancellations of races in the first weeks of the year added to significant changes in team compositions and jerseys during the winter.

PIRELLI P ZERO Race Tub SL Giro 21 270421 EU

PRESS RELEASE PIRELLI LIGHTENS THE WORLD TOUR TUBULAR TYRE: P ZERO RACE TUB SL ARRIVE AT GIRO D’ITALIA The new rubber, equipped with a special inner tube, guarantees a reduction in overall tyre weight of more than 10%, while maintaining the same grip, smoothness and reliability characteristics. It will be the ace up the sleeve of Pirelli's World Tour teams at the Giro d'Italia: Simon Yates and Esteban Chaves for Team BikeExchange, Nibali's Trek-Segafredo and AG2R Citröen. Milan, Italy, April 27, 2021- A little more than three years after returning to professional cycling, Pirelli is preparing to launch an innovation that will redefine the bicycle tubular tyre. At the Giro d'Italia 2021, and soon on the market, comes the P ZERO RACE Tub SL. Pirelli is once again taking on a sacred monster of road cycling: the tubular. A tyre that has seen very little innovation in its history, on which the benefits of one feature have usually been at the expense of others, that are equally important for performance. Very few tyre manufacturers have recently taken an interest in improving the tubular, as this is a niche product, almost exclusively intended for professional cycling. As with the elite sports in which it is a partner, on two and four wheels, in cycling Pirelli confirms its vocation for continuous product development and absolute performance in the world of racing, without necessarily having a significant commercial outcome. Although the future is tubeless, in all respects, Pirelli recognises that most Pro teams still use tubular tyres.
