Keetch-Byram Drought Index: 141 (-52) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry) Today’s Weather Map Current River Flood Warnings Meteorology Summary Statewide Overview, Next 24 Hours: A nice day is setting up across the state as high pressure takes control. Winds have subsided back to near 10 mph, sunshine has returned, and cooler air has settled in. Highs today will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s across North and Central Florida with Forecast High middle to upper 60s in South Florida. Rain is not Temperatures expected today anywhere across the state. Lows tonight will be fairly chilly. Temperatures will fall into the middle 30s to lower 40s across the Big Bend, Northeast Florida, and Central Florida. Lows will be in the upper 40s to middle 50s in South Florida. However, in the Panhandle, warmer air will surge back in ahead of a weak cold front. This will allow lows to only settle in the middle 40s to lower 50s. Today’s Rain Chances Coastal Hazards / Hydrology Rip Currents: Waves and winds are subsiding along all coasts. However, residual waves of 3-6’ from this week’s system will continue impacting Gulf Coast beaches today. This will result in a high rip current risk for all Panhandle and most West Coast beaches. High Surf Advisories remain in effect for Pinellas through Collier Counties. Offshore winds and 2-3’ waves along the East Coast will result in a Rip low rip current risk. Remember, always swim within sight of a lifeguard. Rip currents can still occur on low risk days! Current Lake Okeechobee average elevation is 12.78 feet, which is 1.91 feet below normal for this time of year. Outlook Hydrology: Minor to moderate river and creek flooding is expected to continue across much of North Florida and along the West Coast during the next several days. 27 River Flood Warnings are in effect, with a current list found here. Moderate flooding is ongoing for the Chipola River near Altha, the Suwannee River near White Springs Current & Forecast and near Suwannee Springs, the Santa Fe River at Three Rivers Estates, the Ichetucknee River below Ichetucknee River State Park, River Conditions the Alafia River at Lithia, and the Little Manatee River at Wimauma. Major flooding is occurring at the upper Suwannee River near Benton and the Ocklawaha River at Rodman Dam. Major flooding is forecast for early next week for the Santa Fe River near Three Rivers Estates. Additionally, minor coastal flooding will continue this morning for portions of the Upper Keys, and a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the Upper Keys through late this morning. Drought & Fire Weather Fire Weather: Abundant rainfall across the state has helped moisten the soils and fuels for fires. However, with lower humidity across the state and northwesterly winds around 10 mph, there is a moderate threat of wildfires today, mainly across the Peninsula. County burn bans are in effect for 6 counties, including Gulf County in the Panhandle and 5 in the Peninsula that are prohibited year-round. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index average for Florida is 141 (-52) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry). There are currently 8 Florida counties with a KBDI above 500, all in the Peninsula.
