• Appointees party January 27 IMPORTANT • 1st quarter Divan breakfast February 27th – all nobles and dates to remember spouses welcome to join us for a Divan served breakfast a Letter from our PoteNTATE

Well, here we are at the start of another year, a new Potentate, new plans, and hopes for the future. I think we have reason for optimism. Over the past few years we have added events that now generate a significant part of our budget, like the State Fair, and the 2nd Sportsman Raffle. We are working hard to develop new events for the 2nd and 4th quarters that stabilize our revenue stream over the year. In doing this, we have moved away from asking our Shriners to buy tickets to this or that to support our Shrine. In exchange, I ask for some of your time, time to work at our events, meet your Shrine family and support our Temple through contribution of time. We can be optimistic for the future as we have turned a corner. We have replaced old income streams with new, productive events; events that get us out in the public eye. Hopefully, people will notice us and some may say… hey, I’d like to be a Shriner. We have 2 very high profile events and we are adding more for his very reason, to improve our income and to present the best fraternity in the world to the public in an effort to get them to join us. We are going to work very hard to instill a positive mental attitude within this Temple and shoot down the nay sayers. So, what is our mission this year? Where do we want to be in December 2017. With a clear mission and plan we will achieve our goals. So, here is what I see as our mission for this year. 1. Continue our profit improvement for 2016, by adding 2 more events that bring in outside funds. 2. Stabilize our budget for the long terms with events that generate a surplus for our Temple each year, by improving our existing events and creating new owns that generate additional revenue for our Temple. 3. Place our Shrine Creed up on the wall and attempt to live up to its meaning in and words. Live up to our creed and our Temple will be a better place and we will be better men. 4. Improve our facilities for our main income producer Silver Gardens to support goals 1 and 2. Update our facilities for our customers. Silver Gardens generates $300,000 each year that pays for the majority of our lights, heat, insurance and taxes. We have to keep this facility looking fresh and vibrant. It has been 7 years since we have given it a facelift. 5. Improve our home for our units and Nobles so that its an enjoyable place to be by being creative in our use of space, implementing new programs to help units improve and renovating existing facilities to create a better environment 6. Improve our product, that is, improve what we offer to new members and our current Nobles. We have to offer something of value to everyone. What is our product? A fraternity of like minded Brothers striving to create a better life for our Shrine kids and maintain a friendship and bonds with our Brothers. 7. Create events that are fun, provide value and are entertaining to everyone involved by entertaining our Nobles, providing a sense of pride of ownership in our events and providing access to families to enjoy the events we host. 8. Improve Nobility participation by reengaging Nobles who are no longer active, , creating events that people want to participate in because they enjoy it, making sure our Nobles want to be part of all that we do and understand why we do what we do and how it aids our Temple. 9. Change and improve how we conduct business. Be creative in what we do, proactive in our actions, plan and execute to achieve our goals. We are dong this. We are changing how we conduct business. We are instituting an Operations Manual by which our business affairs will be conducted. This is a definitive guideline on accounting procedures, budgeting and operations. 10. Improve communication to our Nobility about events and happenings at our Temple to keep everyone engaged in what we do. We are installing a 24 hour call in line with all the upcoming events. Monthly we will be able to call out to all our Nobles with upcoming events. And, lastly, the Moslemite will be out within the first 5 days of each month. Can we achieve all of these goals? I would think so since many of them have been in process for over 4 months now. We are well on our way to bringing a lot of them to completion within the first quarter. They are not new or recently created. We have been working on these goals for quite some time. What else are we changing? We are elevating our Unit Directors as acting mangers of our Temple and its operations. As we go through the year, the Unit Directors will be our fist line of communication back to our Units. The Directors will hear it from our Divan before anyone else does. It will be their job to take information provided by the Divan back to their members. All Directors will be held to act at all times in the best interests of this Temple. No less than I expect from all members of this Divan, my staff and our Nobility. It starts from the top down, leadership and accountability. We have a great Divan, of committed members, that have worked hard these past few years to improve our Temple. I am committed to continuing this progress. I ask our Nobility to help us. I ask our Nobles to volunteer at an event. Give us a hand in running our events. Come to business meetings and tell us what you would like to see and how we, together, can improve our Temple. I have a vision and a plan for where we will be on December 31, 2016. I ask everyone to assist me in achieving these goals for the betterment of all our Nobles. Long after I am gone, I would hope that some where, some place, some one in remembrance says, yep, 2016, that was a pretty good year for our Temple. Craig Stigleman Potentate

Many were in disrepair but many were in good shape. Our garage staff, using heads up thinking contacted Clawson High School Performing Arts and asked if they could use these instruments. We were met with an overwhelming YES. The instruments were taken to the high school and our Divan met with the School board for a formal thank you. This is a win for everyone. Our Temple is recognized as a great new addition to Clawson, the school kids gain instruments on which to play and the School Board loves its new resident, the Moslem Transportation garage. It is a complete win for everyone-my hats off to the garage staff, Don Kincheloe, Joe Kish, Gary Theiman, and Bob Final for heads up thinking and initiative.

14 January Moslemite Wi-Mos Musings – December By Candy Lee, Scribe Wow, the Shrine ladies of Wi-Mos really know how to cook! The holiday season brought scintillating aromas to the Nobles’ Lounge with our gourmet cooks offering their best. From Barb Kincheloe’s flavorful appetizers to Judy O’Brien’s Bailey’s Irish Crème cups to Hazel Thompson’s cakes extraordinaire, we feasted! A broken collarbone kept Secretary Dee Mueller at home. So, Joyce Staten stepped in to let us know we received a thank you letter from SHC-Chicago for our donation. Happy New Year Ladies of the Household, I really enjoyed all the Christmas activities this past month. Even before the holiday season began, we had our annual Toy Walk for the children in the Shriners’ Hospitals. After the Stated Session, the toys were boxed and tabulated. They were placed outside the Shrine office to be delivered to the hospitals in Chicago, Cincinnati and Erie in plenty of time for Christmas. The Past Queen met for their Holiday Luncheon, the Membership Committee invited all members to Sandy’s by the Beech for lunch, Huron Valley Nile Club met at Highland House for their holiday festivities, our Stated Session was held on December 14th and then the Tambourettes met at Peabody’s for their holiday party. Wow! What great times of fun and fellowship we shared.

Our January Stated Session on January 11,2016 will include a Ceremonial. Lunch begins at 11 A.M. with the session and ceremonial to begin at noon. Please come and help us welcome new members into Ahmose Temple.

Past Queen Welda Felber turns 100 years old on January 31, 2016. She became a member of Ahmose Temple on May 20, 1966 making her a fifty-year member this coming May. She was Queen thirty years ago in 1986. Congratulations and Best Wishes, Welda. God’s Blessing to all, Sheila McWilliams, Queen Ahmose Temple #63 Daughter of the Nile
