An example set by a patriarch of our present generation occurred on the Susque hanna River on July 1, 1944 and should serve as a living symbol of clean sportsmanship among fishermen everywhere. John Collier an inveterant fisherman of some seventy- four summers who has lived his lifetime near the Cove in Perry County is the subject of this tribute. In company with John Starr of Harrisburg, the old fisherman was fishing the waters of the Susquehanna opposite the Cove when suddenly a "wham" and the fight was on. After quite a battle old man Collier brought a fine Susquehanna walleyed pike to net. Upon lifting the big prize he noticed that the fish was a female heavy with spawn. Shout ing to his companion Mr. Starr, he said: "It's a mom-fish full of eggs." With no further ado, he gently and carefully re turned it to the water. Workers assemble material for hospital. • Page 1 a Market Analysis for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)
Page 1 A Market Analysis for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Justin Parrent Full Sail University Project & Portfolio II: Business and Marketing June 24, 2019 Page 2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY World Wrestling Entertainment has been very profitable in 2018 and moving into 2019. Moving Smackdown Live to Fox for a $1 billion-dollar deal over the next 5 years beginning in October 2019 (Guthrie, 2018). Reaching a 10-year deal with the Saudi Arabian government has also been very profitable with income reaching nearly $100 million from the 2 shows produced in 2018 (Datson, 2018). This is all very good news, but WWE has been reaching record low attendance numbers for events and record low television ratings. Recent numbers show only 6,000 people in attendance for the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view and only 3,000 in attendance for the Monday Night Raw the day after (Ravens, 2019). Television ratings have constantly been below a 3.0 for 2019 and has been steadily declining over the last 3 years (Dixon, 2019). As compared to peak ratings often above 5.0 from 1999 to 2000 (2xZone.com, NA). Even with the steady decline all televised shows this is very worrying numbers as All Elite Wrestling has been formed. They have secured a television deal with TNT and have sold out both of their pay-per-views. Double or Nothing Sold out in 4 minutes and the upcoming All Out pay-per-view in August which sold out in 15 minutes (McCarthy, 2019). Both venues hold over 11,000 people. In order to remain profitable, it is time to look at what is causing the decline and what made WWE so successful from 1999-2000.

Toward a More Objective Understanding of Professional Wrestling: The Multidimensional Scale for the Analysis of Professional Wrestling (MSAPW) Tyson L. Platt Alabama State University [email protected] Aaron D. Horton Alabama State University [email protected] The quality of professional wrestling matches has commonly been evaluated using the five-star system popularized by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer newsletter. Though useful for describing match quality in casual settings, the scale is insufficient for academic analyses of the perception of match quality. The present article proposes a multidimensional scale for evaluating professional wrestling across the dimensions of spectacle, in-ring technique, in-ring difficulty, storytelling, and spectator engagement. Each dimension is explicitly defined and can be assessed using an 11-point scale, which allows researchers to better understand how professional wrestling viewers interpret match quality. The scale can also be weighted in a manner that allows for comparisons across different categories of professional wrestling viewers. Information on the application and analysis of the scale are discussed. Keywords: professional wrestling; pro wrestling; combat sports; fandom “When you break down what a five-star match is, what are you looking for?” “I have no idea …” Dave Meltzer, Wrestling Observer Radio Live Q&A From Starrcast II, May 24, 2019 Authors’ acknowledgements: The authors would like to acknowledge the historical contributions of the wrestling media for their attempts to quantify the quality of professional wrestling matches. We would especially like to acknowledge the contributions of Norman Dooley for his adoption of the star-rating system and Dave Meltzer for his expansion, explanation and popularization of the star-rating system.

  • Brief Bios of the Japanese Talent Featured In
VERY Brief bios of the 8 non Riho/Hikaru Shida Japanese Talent featured in AEW Women’s Championship Tournament: Important to note: Japanese companies are almost ways segregated based on gender. Women’s promotions are called “Joshi” (pronounced Joe-she)Their company will be noted in parenthesis. Freelancers will also be noted as they work more similarly to independent talent here. Many talent share talent and use freelancers due to small rosters. Tokyo Joshi Pro is the most self sufficient promotion featured in the tournament and rarely shares talent elsewhere unless noted. 1) Yuka Sakazaki (Tokyo Joshi Pro) - Yuka is the former Princess of Princess (World) Champion having lost her belt at their big annual show in early January after a very lengthy reign. - She has appeared in AEW numerous times but now that she is no longer the champion, she may appear for longer stretches of time. 2) Maki Itoh (Tokyo Joshi Pro) -insanely popular with western fans. Maki is a former idol whom often goes viral on wrestler twitter due to her “new English words/terms of the day” which are usually curse words and sexual terms that fans teach her. She swears a lot and likes to call people motherfucker. She sometimes goes by Maki “fucking” Itoh. -Marked improvement as a wrestler in recent times and will be VERY popular. 3) Emi Sakura (Choco Pro fka Gatoh Move) -legendary Joshi legend and even more legendary wrestling trainer. Well respected worker but more respected for the mega stars she has created which includes Shida, Riho and others. -She now runs a company called Chocopro which is formerly known as Gatoh Move.
