THE VISION , tonight’s talk on 2020VISION, is hosted by photographer Peter Cairns and provides an evening of inspirational imagery, music and personal anecdotes, as well as an insight into the ethos behind 2020VISION. Based in the heart of the Cairngorms, Peter Cairns is a nature photographer with fifteen years professional experience under his belt. Author of regular features and five books, he was co-founder of the widely acclaimed Tooth & Claw predator project, along with Wild Wonders of Europe. He is a founding director of The Wild Media Foundation, the social enterprise behind the 2020VISION multimedia project and the body behind the Scottish Nature Photography Festival. CHOES frOM GAllIPOlI is a community event Eand reflects the experiences of local people who were left at home during the 1915 Gallipoli campaign, and those soldiers who were on the front. A joint presentation between The Dunkeld Archive and birnam Arts , with readings by members of local amateur theatre group, BIPS, local writer Bob Davidson has adapted first-hand accounts and documentation from both local and national press archives. These accounts recall the history and experiences of soldiers who served with The Scottish Horse Yeomanry, which was based in and around Dunkeld. This will be a fascinating and insightful evening of local history and anecdotes, with a Q&A session at the end with David Arbuthnot, Dunkeld Archive historian. For those interested in the Gallipoli campaign, the Archive will be running a foyer exhibition at Birnam Arts during September.

orn in an underground open mic night in Northern California, THE BrAINbOw GIrlS began as an acoustic act, writing and performing original material, with roots in stomp folk, rock n' roll, americana, funk /soul /gypsy, then hit the streets of Europe for a summer of couch surfing, busking, and travelling by the skin of their teeth and returned as an electric stomp-folk band complete with drums, bass, and a slew of original music. These inspirational ladies switch backwards and forwards between a multitude of instruments, including acoustic and electric guitar, accordion, harmonica, banjolele, mandolin, bass, cello, keys, ukelele, kazoo, djembe, and drum kit… add to that soaring harmonies and you have a sound that’s both electrifying and exhilarating. Back for their fourth trip to the UK shores, this lot don't flag or take it easy… the girls have been holed up in their new home north of San Francisco recording their newest album, Perceptronium, due out June this year. In this latest tour, Cold Mountain, he takes up where his last finished, arriving in Antarctica dreaming of climbing the 'hardest mountain in the world’, before further cold adventures in Alaska, Norway and Patagonia. As with all of Andy’s shows, Cold Mountain is a mash up of thoughts and experiences, good times and bad, laughter and maybe tears, but certainly out of this world.

rACkED IS SET in a lowland Scottish coastal community. The ftreasurer of the local golf club has run off with ‘exotic’ dancer Lola and the club funds, mortgaging the club in the process. The bank sells the club to a conglomerate who intend to frack beneath the golf course. Dougal, a local who wants to join the club, but can’t afford to, becomes the club’s unlikely saviour. In the interim there are twists and turns and sub plots a plenty, including a marine biologist researching the anti- ageing properties of shellfish, who turns out to be the long-lost love of the oil magnate who has bought the club.... and so on and so on! Pot shots and liberties galore are taken at bankers, banking, subsidised 'green' industries, golf, government interference, local politics, dietary fads and the concerns of ageing, but in good comedy tradition – it all ends on a happy note!

With the help of two mischievous elves, he makes some unusual shoes and sells them at a good profit and manages to pay his rent. The shoemaker is so pleased that he rewards the elves. This fun adaption of Grimm’s fairy tale is retold with the help of beautifully made puppets, props and, of course, lots of lovely shoes!

TONESCAPES showcases recent work by Scottish landscape painter and Sprintmaker MAlIzE MCbrIDE . Malize’s work is informed by her fascination for rocks; she is particularly interested in geological process and its influence on the topography of her subject matter. Making graphite rubbings of the local rock, and physically making contact with the landscape, is integral to Malize’s work; the rubbings have an intrinsic beauty and are often the starting point for a work. She works mainly in watercolour and mono print and, sometimes, collage. Mcbride has an MFA from the Edinburgh College of Art and exhibits in both solo and group shows in the UK and internationally. A member of Perthshire Open Studios exhibitions Malize is working towards a
