Oldland Parish Council’s Newsletter Covering the parish wards of Barrs Court, Cadbury Heath, Longwell Green, Orchard, Willsbridge and Wraxall NEWSLETTER NO. 42 ~ AUTUMN 2015 CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE Welcome to our latest Parish magazine and I’m delighted to be able to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the new Oldland Parish Council, following the recent elections. Thanks go to all of our parishioners who voted! It was certainly a hectic day with three elections going on at the same time! We have a brand new council with some old faces and a number of new ones as well and you can be assured that all of your hard working councillors will be doing their best for the Parish – which incidentally, is one of the largest parishes in the country. My name is Ron Hardie and I have served as a Councillor for a number of years. I am very honoured to have been selected to Chair the Council. We have had many success in the past and we will continue to work hard to satisfy you, our parishioners. To that end, we earnestly seek your input. So if you have comments, suggestions or just questions about what we do and how we can help you please let your local councillor, the Clerk or myself know. Don’t forget that all our Council meetings and committee meetings are open to the public and we always have a slot for public participation where parishioners can speak. We meet as a full Council each month and in between have various committee meetings. So come along if you would like to see how it works! We will be having our popular Parish Evening on 9 October 2015 and I encourage representatives of local groups and organisations to come along, have a glass of something and meet the Council in an informal setting. Prizes for Parish in Bloom, and other awards will also be presented. The event is held in the recently refurbished Cadbury Heath Hall which is proving to be very popular for many groups and functions. (continued on page 2) CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE (cont) These are hard times as we know and your Council will be doing its best to maintain the value for money that you have come to expect from us. We have responsibility for many more local functions than in the past including grass cutting, dog bins, youth provision etc. These services now fall to us to manage so again if you think there are ways to improve let us know. We have also been running for two years a Community Speed Watch to try to reduce speeding on the roads in the Parish. This has been very successfully managed by Councillor Graham Downing who is always looking for volunteers so if you can give an hour or two to help please contact the Clerk. So there we are, a new Council and new responsibilities. We are certainly looking forward to the challenge and I hope you, the parishioners, will take the opportunity to get involved as well. In closing I should like to take this opportunity to congratulate Councilor Sam Balch (our youngest hard working Councillor) on achieving his degree in teaching. Well done Sam!! I’m sure you will be a credit to the teaching profession. Cllr Ron Hardie The Parish Clerk is Victoria Hicks (28 Brunel Close, Bridgeyate, Bristol, BS30 5BB) and can be contacted at all reasonable times: Telephone: 0117 961 5021 Email [email protected] The Parish Council website http://communities.southglos.gov.uk/sites/oldlandparish IF YOU WOULD LIKE AN E-MAIL COPY OR LARGE PRINT VERSION OF THIS NEWSLETTER,CONTACT THE CLERK. Formed in 1966, South Glos Wine Circle has developed over the years into one of the leading West Country Wine Circles. We will be celebrating our Golden Anniversary in 2016. We now meet at 8pm on the first Wednesday of every month in St.Barnabas Church Hall, Church Avenue, Warmley, near Bristol. The hall has own car park. New members are very welcome - whether you wish to make wine, or whether you just appreciate commercial wine and beer and would like to share your interest with like-minded people.
