  • AIDA Cruises Will Resume Cruise Operations with Fall and Winter Voyages
AIDA Cruises Will Resume Cruise Operations with Fall and Winter Voyages Germany's leading cruise line will begin Canary Island cruises in November, Western Mediterranean and Orient cruises in mid-December and extends pause until November ROSTOCK, Germany, Aug. 28, 2020 -- AIDA Cruises, the leading cruise line in Germany and a part of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), today announced that it will offer cruises this fall and winter that combine the fascination of a cruise trip with an unforgettable holiday experience to several popular destinations. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the conditions are currently not in place in Germany's neighbouring European countries, especially in the north with Norway and Denmark or the Baltic states. For many distant destinations outside of Europe, the Federal Republic of Germany has issued a travel warning or the respective countries have prohibited calls of cruise ships until 2021. As a result, the company has cancelled its previously announced cruises for September and has updated its fall and winter 2020-2021 program to provide its guests and sales partners additional time to plan and book vacations for a safe and enjoyable return to cruise holidays. As the first ship from the AIDA fleet to begin sailing, AIDAmar will set course on Nov. 1, 2020, for seven-day voyages to the Canary Islands, a popular destination with German vacationers. AIDAperla will follow on Nov. 7, 2020, and will take over the travel program originally planned for AIDAnova. AIDAmar's voyages will start and end in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. For voyages with AIDAperla, in addition to Las Palmas, AIDA Cruises will offer a second departure port with Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

  • Majorcan Delegation Visits Aidaperla
Majorcan delegation visits AIDAperla July 13, 2017 Representatives of port and tourism authorities, and professors from the University of the Balearic Islands inform themselves on board about environmental measures at AIDA Cruises Last Saturday (July 8, 2017), AIDAperla, the youngest member of the AIDA Cruises fleet, returned to the port of Palma de Mallorca after its christening and maiden voyage. In addition to Barcelona, Germany's favorite island is one of the departure and destination ports for the seven-day cruises around the western Mediterranean with AIDAperla in its premiere season. During the stay at port, Captain Boris Becker welcomed a Majorcan delegation of port and tourism representatives, along with professors from the University of the Balearic Islands. The emphasis of the ship visit was to discuss innovative environmental measures with regard to emission reduction and energy efficiency on board AIDAperla. After its twin ship AIDAprima (put into service in May 2016), AIDAperla is the second cruise ship in the world to be equipped with a dual-fuel engine for the use of low emission liquefied natural gas (LNG) while docking at port. AIDA Cruises is working with authorities and further partners so that AIDAperla can be supplied with liquefied natural gas (LNG) while she is docked in port. In comparison to conventional fuel, emissions are significantly reduced when liquefied natural gas is used for power generation. A prerequisite for this is the availability of LNG at the respective port. AIDA Cruises is discussing this matter with Mediterranean ports. "It was a very interesting and informative visit on board AIDAperla.

  • Cruise Ship Locations 16 May 2021
CRUISE SHIP LOCATIONS 16 MAY 2021 Compiled by Mike Pryce, Wellington NZ (Information believed correct at this date. Compiled from various sources and internet AIS, especially www.cruisemapper.com. Excludes ferries and cruise ferries. Many cruise ships have been in “warm” lay-up, when they have periodically moved from their berths or anchorages and gone for short voyages locally to give their engines and equipment “a run”, and including production of freshwater, before returning to lay-up. Ships at anchor periodically need to berth to take onboard fuel, food, provisions and other supplies. Some inter-ship crew transfers at sea are being made, outside port limits. With the resumption of “normal” cruising looking very uncertain in many countries in the near future, more cruise ships are likely to move to “cold” lay-up until the situation becomes clearer, whilst others go into shipyards for overhauls and surveys. Many cruise ships have been in lay-up for over a year, as the initial “pause” has been continually extended due to more Covid-19 outbreaks, and many financial assumptions made on the expectation of an initial two-months lockdown have needed reviewing. This has resulted in many recent sales of older ships, and limited cruising in the Mediterranean and Europe, where these areas are being affected by sporadic outbreaks in Covid-19 infections. The largest concentration of laid-up cruise ships is on the Bahamas Banks (east of Miami and south of Freeport) A large number of cruise ships are anchored off the south coast of England, west of Southampton. Another large group are anchored in the South China Sea, NE of Singapore.
