EHRLICHMAN'S LAWYER SAYS NIXON WAS BEHIND COVER-UP WASHINGTON (AP)--Former White House aide Egil "Bud" Krough testified yes- terday that he--not Watergate cover-up defendant John D. Ehrlichman--was responsible for the 1971 break-in at the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psy- chiatrist. Under questioning by Ehrlichman's defense lawyer, William S. Frates, Krough said that the break-in had been bungled and could be traced to the White House so he went beyond any instructions or authority he had from Ehrlichman. "It was in every respect a botched operation," said Krough, once a close family friend of Ehrlichman. Frates sought to demonstrate that Ehrlichman's part in the Watergate cover- up was motivated by his concern that a national security operation--the Ells- Tuesday, November 26, 1974 berg break-in--would be exposed to public scrutiny.
