By Douglas Hardy Daily Campus Staff Well, I think it's safe to say that it really is the last game of the season for the football team. UConn is looking to extend its three game winning streak over the University of New Hampshire. UNH has the strongest defensive unit the Huskies have faced this year, according to head coach Tom Jackson. The Huskies played like it trucly was their last game of the season last Saturday, routing the University of Rhode Island 52-7. The Huskies tallied 567 total offensive yards on the afternoon, breaking UConn's single-game total offense record, which was set in 1980 with 530 yards against Buckncll. The Huskies' are playing for third place in the Yankee Conference this week. Both teams have YanCon records of 4-2. UConn's overall record stands at 6-4, while UNH is 7-2. Last week's victory guaranteed the Huskies their second consecutive winning season. The last time UConn posted two winning seasons in a row was in 1959 and 1960, with records of 6- 3 and 5-4. The Huskies have more than just third place to play for on Saturday. A win would bring their record to 7-4, which will give UConn 15 wins in the past two seasons — the best two- season record in UConn history. UConn's three-game, late season winning streak has seen them outscorc their opponents 106 to 49. Aside from playing consistently, which was a problem for the Huskies early in the season, UConn has been coming up wiih big plays on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Any coach knows that teams thai can perform in clutch situations and come up with big plays are teams that win football games. New Hampshire head coach Bill Bowes feels that his Wildcats have an excellent chance of making the playoffs this year with an at-largc bid. But first, they must come up with a win over UConn Saturday to have any chance at all. Bowes said UConn has the momentum coming into Saturday's game with three consecutive wins under their bell.
