10 Dal XVI al XIX secolo From the 16th to the 19th century

Nel 1519, Papa Leone X diede in feudo la Rocca insieme a Meldola e Sarsina al principe Alberto Pio da Carpi. Nel 1527 il castello fu saccheggiato inutilmente dai Lanzichenecchi del Borbone in quanto già abbandonato da anni. A partire dal 1597 subì esclusivamente passaggi di proprietà senza nessun tipo d’interessamento o utilizzo da parte dei suoi proprietari. Passò quindi ai principi Aldobrandini; a metà del secolo XVII fu di proprietà dei Pamphili e infine, nel 1766, dei Doria- Pamphili. Nel 1853 i Doria-Pamphili la diedero in enfiteusi alla famiglia Baccarini di Forlì. L’incoscienza e l’avidità degli uomini, si unirono all’opera distruttrice del tempo ad accelerarne la sua rovina e ad aggravare la situazione di abbandono. Come se non bastasse, a discapito dell’originale assetto del manufatto si verificò un grave terremoto che nel 1870 lesionò significativamente la torre centrale, la quale crollò quasi totalmente in occasione dei terremoti dei primi vent’anni del ‘900.

In 1519, Pope Leo X gave feudal ownership of the Rocca together with Meldola and Sarsina to Prince Alberto Pio da Carpi. In 1527 the fortress was ransacked by the Bourbon Lanzichenecchi, uselessly because it had been abandoned for years. Starting in 1597 there were just transfers of ownership without its owners showing an interest or using it in any way. Then it was transferred to the Aldobrandini princes; in the mid-17th century it became property of the Pamphili and finally, in 1766, of the Doria-Pamphilis. In 1853 the Doria-Pamphilis family granted a long lease over it to the Baccarini family of Forlì. The carelessness and greed of men, combined with the destructive action of time accelerated its ruin and made the situation of disrepair even worse. As if this were not enough, to the detriment of the original structure of the artifact, there was a serious earthquake which in 1870 seriously damaged the central tower, which collapsed almost totally when it was hit by earthquakes during the first twenty years of the twentieth century.
