Blenheim Palace: The beautiful Blenheim Palace in Woodstock was home to the famous Churchill family. Sir Winston Churchill was born at the palace and proposed to his wife to be in the palace gardens. The once rundown Blenheim Estate was given to John Churchill by Queen Anne after his victory over France in the War of The Spanish Succession. When he was given the dilapidated home, she also gave him £240,00 to fund the rebuild of the estate. Blenheim Palace has become a major tourist attraction in the Cotswolds, with not only a majestic palace to walk around but views of some of the most idyllic scenery in the grounds. Bourton-on-the-Water: Once called ‘The Venice of the Cotswolds’, Bourton-on-the- Water is extremely popular with tourists in the North Cotswolds all year round. Bourton is a pretty village centre that is centred around the River Windrush with perfectly kept grass areas to sit, friendly cafes and interesting gift shops. Visit The Model Village which is an exact replica of Bourton village built to waist height including trees, the church, houses and the river. Explore Birdland Park to see a wonderful sanctuary with hundreds of rare birds including penguins, cranes, flamingos and parrots.
Chastleton House: Chastleton House was originally built by a local, wealthy wool merchant called Walter Johns and the stately home still retains many of its original features. A remarkable Jacobean 400-year-old house, Chastleton House is in the village of Chastleton between Chipping Norton and Moreton-in-Marsh. It was reportedly the home also owned by Robert Catesby who was one of the main figures involved in the Gunpowder Plot. It is believed that much of the planning and theories for blowing up parliament was done in Catesby’s room at Chastleton House.
