Orphie Easson American Squaredance, February 1984 3 "Moody Blues" may be a romantic name for a song title, but moody blues are in reality no fun at all! Everyone knows that! One of the very positive things that many new dancers say about square dancing is that gloomy and de- pressed feelings are chased away by the fun and the concentration of an evening's dancing. We live very close to Lake Erie and often note the changing moods of the seascape— serene and lovely, angry and churning. Sailing on Lake George has taught us, too, how quickly a lake's mood can change from peaceful to treacherous. Here in northern Ohio, while we dec- orate insides and outsides of homes for the holidays, we have had an excep- tionally gloomy month, weatherwise, ac- companied by the usual gripes about the "yucky" rain and mud. Three authors and two poets have bylines in this February issue, which means that more of the features were written by regular writers and by your editors. Brian Eddings authored the story on Hawaiian square dancing. while Agnes Grit. for describes a square dance house party of many years ago. A presentation for a Washington State Leadership Seminar by caller Harris Stockard is reprinted. Fre- quent contributors Mary Heisey and Ida Reilinger appear once again in "Rhyme Time." Space remains, then. io present Valentines to regular ASD writers, Harold and Lill Bausch, Mary Jenkins, Mary Fabik, Russ and Nancy Nichols, Gene and Thelma Trimmer and Beverly Warner. Faithful reviewers Frank and Phyl Lehnert and John and Gail Swindle deserve many lacy bouquets for their record reviews. Workshop writers Ed Fraidenburg, Bob Howell and Howie Shirley have provided material for hundreds of callers and many more dancers through their efforts. We call attention to a new addition to our masthead: Orphie Easson, who has agreed to serve as our Canadian representative. Orphie has staffed the ASD booth at Canadian conventions and has been featured in the Professional Profile series. She was a member of the Advisory Board of this magazine some years ago. Welcome aboard, Orphie. ADVERTISERS LISTING For extra convenience to readers. we are listing our advertisers (space ads only) and numbering each.
