Lewis and his only wife, Helen Joy Davidman Gresham, was improbable-and seemingly impossible. Their Eros-story led to some of C. S. Lewis's greatest works on love, grief, and faith, yet Joy is most commonly known for how she died. Becoming Mrs. Lewis allows us to see how this... In a most improbable friendship, she found love. In a world where women were silenced, she found her voice. In a God beyond the religion of her birth, she found faith. From New York Times bestselling author Patti Callahan comes an exquisite novel of Joy Davidman, the woman C. S. Lewis called "my whole world." • Reverendly Speaking Pursue Righteousness, Godliness, Faith, Love, Endurance, Gentleness
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Honoring the Past — Embracing the Future! Downtown Tampa, Florida October 2019 Reverendly Speaking Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11 Dear People of St. Andrew’s, “Mr. Clean,” the bald, muscular, earring-bedazzled and immaculately dressed icon of all things shiny and scrubbed turns 61 this year. Since 1958, America has become accustomed to seeing him show up in com- mercials helping someone make things spic-and-span with his patented formula. And in these 60-some years, he hasn’t aged much. He wears a white shirt, has white eyebrows, his arms are folded. He looks like a very clean bouncer at a nightclub — not a male version of a charwoman. Anyway — Mr. Clean’s solvent was originally created as an alternative to the caustic fluids that had previ- ously been used for cleaning ships. Perhaps that’s why Mr. Clean looks like a guy who’s just stepped off of a squeaky-clean Navy ship in port from some exotic locale. Keeping things clean has always been costly, not only in terms of the various goos, potions and wipes we use but also in terms of elbow grease. Dirt and grime have a tendency to accumulate quickly, and it takes a diligent, determined and daily effort to scrub, scour, sweep, mop, dust and wipe down all things domes- tic. The same is true for our spiritual lives. Left unattended, our lives tend to accumulate a lot of harmful gunk that can really gum up the works and make it difficult for us to live freely and cleanly as God intend- ed.

  • Unwrapping Advent Celebrating the Wonder of Jesus’ Arrival Then and Now
Unwrapping Advent Celebrating the Wonder of Jesus’ Arrival Then and Now A 4-Week Devotional by Margaret Feinberg Dear Friend, If you’re like me, the weeks leading up to Christmas are all too often filled with lists and to-dos. Instead of living in wild expectation of Jesus’s birth, I find myself standing in lines at grocery stories, boutiques, and big box stores. Yet, Advent beckons us to prepare for the arrival of a tiny infant whose frame was so small you could cradle him in the palm of your hand. Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” The Latin derived the word from the Greek word parousia, which is used when describing the Sec- ond Coming of Christ. The purpose of Advent is two-fold. The first is a celebration of the first arrival of Christ; the second is an anticipation of Christ’s return. Advent gently reminds us of the “now” and “not yet” that comes with being people of faith. Advent reminds us of the importance of waiting. Advent whispers our need for a Savior. Advent teaches us God’s timing is always better than ours. Whether you’re new to celebrating Advent or you’ve observed Advent for many years, I want to encourage you to begin nurturing a sense of awe and anticipation in your life for Christ. From the events surrounding His miracle-studded arrival to His unforgettable life, death, and resurrection, those who encountered Jesus Christ were taken back with a profound sense of wonder. As you prayerfully consider and reflect on the following devotionals: • Ask God to open your eyes to Him and His handiwork even more.

Contact: Jessica Richie NEWS 720-260-4120 [P] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [email protected] What’s the spiritual appetite of our nation? Critically Acclaimed Author Believes Despite Thousands Leaving the Church, Americans Are More Spiritually Hungry Than Ever, Yet Struggling to Identify What Truly Satisfies “Margaret Feinberg is a prophetic voice to our generation. This book will pierce your soul and create a renewed hunger to seek God.” —Mark Batterson, pastor of National Community Church and author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day Grand Rapids, Mich., March 22, 2011 – Critically-acclaimed author Margaret Feinberg shares her journey to find God in the ordinary in her new release, Hungry for God (May 2011). Feinberg examines how appetite is woven into the fabric of our humanness and how it affects our life and faith. Just as physical hunger leads a person to search for food, spiritual hunger compels a person to search for God. Studies from the 2008 American Religious Identification Survey found 15 percent of those surveyed did not identify with a religious group—more than double the number in 1990. Double. Yet despite the decrease in religious affiliation, Feinberg believes the spiritual appetite of our nation is at an all time high. “Just look at the best-sellers list with titles like Heaven is For Real as well as the recent online frenzy created by Rob Bell’s Love Wins, and you can’t deny people’s interest to discuss and engage in spiritual matters,” Feinberg said. “These conversations point to a deeper hunger inside people’s hearts to encounter the Divine personally and intimately—a desire that was created and can only be satisfied by God.” By looking for God in mundane moments and listening for God’s voice when you might expect silence, Feinberg invites readers to discover the ways in which God speaks to you, not from the top of some holy mountain, but in the midst of your everyday affairs.

  • Touch, Taste, See and Savor: Experiencing Scripture in the Raw How Margaret Feinberg Left Home for the Land of Milk and Honey
NEWS Contact: Stephanie Ridge Phenix & Phenix Literary Publicists FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (512) 478-2028, ext. 203 [email protected] Touch, Taste, See and Savor: Experiencing Scripture in the Raw How Margaret Feinberg left home for the land of milk and honey MORRISON, Colo. – Modern times have a way of diluting the Bible’s most powerful imagery. What does it mean to know that “Jesus is Lamb of God” when the only places we encounter sheep are at petting zoos? How can we understand the promise of “a land overflowing with milk and honey” when the only honey we buy comes in a bear-shaped bottle at the supermarket? Can we grasp Jesus’ invitation to “abide in the vine” when we shop for grapes at Costco? Like many suburbanites, Margaret Feinberg, a popular author and speaker, felt a little too removed from the dripping honey, wild vines and green Earth of an agrarian society in ancient times to truly grasp the meaning of certain Scripture. She felt disconnected from a world where the produce of the land was not only a source of food, but a foundational element of religious life. Feinberg’s curiosity launched her on an unexpected spiritual journey which she chronicles in her new book, Scouting the Divine: My Search for God in Wine, Wool, and Wild Honey (October 2009, Zondervan, Hardcover, $16.99, ISBN 9780310291220). Part travelogue, part inspirational memoir, Scouting the Divine retraces her footsteps as she set out to learn about ancient livelihoods that illuminate meaningful biblical truths. Along the way, she met a shepherdess in Oregon, walked the fields with a farmer in Nebraska, picked grapes with a veteran vintner in California, and studied the intricacies of a bee colony with a beekeeper in Colorado.

In her new book, Wonderstruck (Worthy Publishing, $14.99 paper, December 25, 2012), she calls Christians to recapture their sense of awe, showing that it is possible to regain the missing spark of holy mystery in the day-to-day. Feinberg suspects she's not the only one whose sense of splendor and delight has faded with the demands of modern living. Succumbing to exhaustion, we miss the wondrous displays that reveal more of God. Holy awe is replaced by unholy indifference. Recalling how the beauty of the Northern Lights mesmerized her when she lived in Alaska, Feinberg still scouts the sky in hope of catching another glimpse of the wonder. “It occurred to me that this is the posture we’re supposed to take in our spiritual journeys,” she says. “God delights for us to cup our hands in prayer and scrunch our faces against the vault of heaven in holy expectation that he will meet us in beautiful, mysterious ways.” From hiking the Scottish Highlands and praying for “pixie dust” to forging new friendships around an old, rustic coffee table, Feinberg shares stories about how she’s reconnected with wonder in her own life.
