ACTIVITY REPORT ON SWEBOK

The companies developing and maintaining software often have problems with the project quality and schedule overruns. Some of the primary reasons revealed by Root Cause Analysis (RCS) are: • Teams composed of engineers with diverse background • The average quality of graduating software engineers is poor • Lack of standard software engineering courseware across different universities • Absence of globally accepted assessment and certification • Ignorance/non-practice of SW Engineering results in cost overruns • Project delivery delays result in significant profit loss to Companies • Product Maintenance and support costs increase • Product Enhancements / Customizations become BIG programs As a result, the companies spend significant time and money training the new hires and up skilling the experienced engineers. Based on the request from the volunteers, IEEE Computer Society created the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK), a consortium of Software Professionals world-wide, from both industry and academy. The committee has created SWEBOK guide which specifies the generally accepted Software Engineering practices and conforms to international standard ISO/IEC TR 19759:2005. The SWEBOK guide is created and developed by leading subject matter experts globally, reviewed by professionals, made available for public review and comment, continuing its 20-years’ reputation as the most authoritative, fundamental, and trusted definition of the software engineering profession
