Ok Search Films Home » Gay Essential Films To Watch, Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel Gay Essential Films To Watch, Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel Over a decade in the making, Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel is the long gestating follow-up to 2004’s Surge of Power: The Stuff of Heroes, which made headlines as the world’s first openly gay superhero adventure. The sequel is the passion project of writer/producer and lead actor Vincent J. Roth, and like the first entry in this unlikely franchise, is a tongue in cheek spoof of superhero culture, with multiple nods to some of the most beloved touchstones of nerd culture over the past half century. Metal Master (John Venturrini), the nemesis of the Surge, attempts to fall away from a life of crime- but after his parents still refuse to accept his sexuality, he keeps to his super villain ways, and heads to Las Vegas on a plan to steal some powerful crystals for evil mastermind Augur (Eric Roberts). Hearing about this plan, The Surge (played, of course, by J. Roth) heads in his high powered surge- mobile over to the city of sin to thwart his evil plan in his tracks. There are numerous cameos from famous faces – from The Exorcist’s Linda Blair as Metal Master’s homophobic mother, to Nichelle Nichols (Uhura in the original sixties Star Trek series) as one of the most powerful superheroes in this galaxy. The film happily pastiches comic book culture, taking a contemporary storyline about tolerance and presenting it in the same campy vein as the original 60’s Batman series with Adam West. Surge has settled in as Big City’s superhero. His nemesis, the Metal Master, is out of jail again, trying to reconcile with his estranged parents (played by Linda Blair and Gil Gerard). Are they more concerned about their son being gay than being a supervillain? Metal Master is tempted to continue a life of crime by Augur (Eric Roberts), old arch enemy of Omen, the sage superhero from the first movie (played by Robert Picardo and Nichelle Nichols). Augur sends Metal Master on a mission to Las Vegas for a strange crystal with unique properties key to Augur’s diabolical scheme. Surge tracks Metal Master to Las Vegas and is out of his element in a strange town. Surge is soon aided by local college students, Wendy, Marvin and Todd, deploying their own talents to help Surge uncover Metal Master’s activities, which also puts Surge in awkward situations. Cut off from his support in Big City and in need of more help, Surge activates the artificial intelligence in his high-tech car, the Surgemobile (portrayed first by Bruce Vilanch, six-time Emmy Award winner, comedian and writer, and later another artificial intelligence personality played by Shannon Farnon, Wonder Woman from the Super Friends!).

    MARVEL POP ART PRODUCTIONS The Classic Marvel Comics Group—Set in the Modern Day A Proposal by Carlton J Donaghe This is a proposal for a line of giant, magazine-sized Marvel Comics, published for an all-ages, general market under the banner ‘Marvel Pop Art Productions.’ This line doesn’t replace any imprint currently published by Marvel. Instead, this self- contained set of 12 monthly titles will present a modernized version of the original Marvel Comics Group (with some later characters thrown in) packaged into an easily- accessible product designed for the general distribution market. The depiction of Marvel’s most recognizable characters in their well-known original costumes and settings will both benefit from and promote the continued use of the classic comics in merchandise and licensing. Format Each issue of every title will contain three 20-page comics, each comic with its own interior cover page and two-page spread of introductions and recaps using art from previous issues. In addition, every issue will contain a set of features, called the FOOM (Friends Of Ol’ Marvel) Pages—all in a single format, pulling the entire line together, making every one of the twelve titles an individual part of a single, sprawling epic.
