Captain America
The Star-spangled Avenger Adapted from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Captain America first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (Cover dated March 1941), from Marvel Comics' 1940s predecessor, Timely Comics, and was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. For nearly all of the character's publication history, Captain America was the alter ego of Steve Rogers , a frail young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to aid the United States war effort. Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with an indestructible shield that can be thrown as a weapon. An intentionally patriotic creation who was often depicted fighting the Axis powers. Captain America was Timely Comics' most popular character during the wartime period. After the war ended, the character's popularity waned and he disappeared by the 1950s aside from an ill-fated revival in 1953. Captain America was reintroduced during the Silver Age of comics when he was revived from suspended animation by the superhero team the Avengers in The Avengers #4 (March 1964). Since then, Captain America has often led the team, as well as starring in his own series. Captain America was the first Marvel Comics character adapted into another medium with the release of the 1944 movie serial Captain America . Since then, the character has been featured in several other films and television series, including Chris Evans in 2011’s Captain America and The Avengers in 2012. The creation of Captain America In 1940, writer Joe Simon conceived the idea for Captain America and made a sketch of the character in costume. -

Abstract Established in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a ubiquitous transmedia sensation. Its uniquely interwoven narrative provides auspicious grounds for scholarly consideration. The franchise conscientiously presents larger-than-life superheroes as complex and incredibly emotional individuals who form profound interpersonal relationships with one another. This thesis explores Sarah Hagelin’s concept of resistant vulnerability, which she defines as a “shared human experience,” as it manifests in the substantial relationships that Steve Rogers (Captain America) cultivates throughout the Captain America narrative (11). This project focuses on Steve’s relationships with the following characters: Agent Peggy Carter, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier). -

Robinson just doesn't do anything interesting with them, with the exception of the wacky original Vision Point One. There's plenty of action, epic fight scenes, and clever plot twists in this first volume. All-New Invaders 3 books. Being back in action again reminds them, as Namor often says, of what is the best about him. I love Winter Soldier but we don't see him much. Well, you could if it was still there. The cool part? They're entirely pragmatic. The Kree were after an object that can control 'gods', so they sent their best Hunter after the original Invaders to find out where they hid it. So this weapon that Baron Strucker used to unleash Hela on the allies in WWII was stopped by the Invaders, who then hid it from the world and had Vision wipe their minds A big bad from the 40s realizes that their main foes Steve, Bucky, Namor and the Human Touch have all managed to survive in the present times as worthy opponents, and so they attack again. Hammond flies up into the stratosphere to reboot his hard drive, which had worked before, but he lost his powers and died. The plot is Finally, a 1 issue that actually introduces the characters to new readers, and in a way that isn't cumbersomw to long-time fans. -

X-Men, Dragon Age, and Religion: Representations of Religion and the Religious in Comic Books, Video Games, and Their Related Media An Honors Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Honors in International Studies. By Lyndsey Erin Shelton Under the mentorship of Dr. Darin H. Van Tassell ABSTRACT It is a widely accepted notion that a child can only be called stupid for so long before they believe it, can only be treated in a particular way for so long before that is the only way that they know. Why is that notion never applied to how we treat, address, and present religion and the religious to children and young adults? In recent years, questions have been continuously brought up about how we portray violence, sexuality, gender, race, and many other issues in popular media directed towards young people, particularly video games. -
Superheroes & Stereotypes: a Critical Analysis of Race, Gender, And
SUPERHEROES & STEREOTYPES: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF RACE, GENDER, AND SOCIAL ISSUES WITHIN COMIC BOOK MATERIAL Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY December 2018 Committee: Alberto González, Advisor Eric Worch Graduate Faculty Representative Joshua Atkinson Frederick Busselle Christina Knopf © 2018 Gabriel Arnoldo Cruz All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Alberto González, Advisor The popularity of modern comic books has fluctuated since their creation and mass production in the early 20th century, experiencing periods of growth as well as decline. While commercial success is not always consistent from one decade to the next it is clear that the medium has been and will continue to be a cultural staple in the society of the United States. I have selected this type of popular culture for analysis precisely because of the longevity of the medium and the recent commercial success of film and television adaptations of comic book material. In this project I apply a Critical lens to selected comic book materials and apply Critical theories related to race, class, and gender in order to understand how the materials function as vehicles for ideological messages. For the project I selected five Marvel comic book characters and examined materials featuring those characters in the form of comic books, film, and television adaptations. The selected characters are Steve Rogers/Captain America, Luke Cage, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Jean Grey, and Raven Darkholme/Mystique. Methodologically I interrogated the selected texts through the application of visual and narrative rhetorical criticism. -

We will re-evaluate the queerness based on Foucault’s Sexual Discourse by thinking about the intersections between queer heroes and queer soldier. Result Show that struggle queer individuals endure with heteronormative standard culture forces them to change standard culture things and forms to create them applicable. Captain America shut relationship with Bucky provides for a queer reading and therefore the history of Captain America among the relative queer freedom caused by socio-historic conditions of war II find this queer reading during a larger queer history. And by claiming Steve Rogers and Bucky as their own queer people create space to express their identities and reaffirm the place of heroic queer people in American history which, as the descendants of that patriotic past, merits them a place within that history and within modern American society. Keywords: Gender in American Society, queer heroes, gender identities INTRODUCTION Captain America is an icon of comic history in the United States and with the rise of Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, his audience has only expanded since the character’s debut in 1941.
