I then travel back to West at the end of each week for my constituency day on Fridays, which can include anything from getting to know small business owners, visiting schools and meeting local organisations and charities. Of course, I always hold my weekly surgery, where I meet with constituents to discuss their specific concerns. FINSTOCK VILLAGE MUSIC Building on the article that Tony Cooper wrote for the last edition of Finstock News, we now want to spread the word about the forthcoming Finstock Village Music event, that will take place on the Friday and Saturday May 26th – 27th. This will be the fifth year that the event has taken place and as many readers will be aware, each year centres around a core theme – for example the Pipe and Tabor tradition; local history in song; local shepherding and the wool industry. For this year we are focusing on Artisan skills and crafts on Saturday, after starting the weekend with a Local History Society event in the Village Hall on Friday evening. Final plans are still being settled as I write, but so far one activity is confirmed. On Friday evening there is a presentation about the extraordinary collections of Percy Manning, the antiquary and folklorist, described as “the man who collected Oxfordshire”. This year marks the centenary of his death and we’re delighted to have Michael Heaney, the curator of the Bodleian Library in , coming to talk at this event. (cont. pg 6) 0 . VILLAGE EVENTS 0 .

At our last Finstock Community Project (FCP) meeting we decided to split the 2016 festival profits. The main contender was the Village Hall. The road and area immediately in front of the Village Hall is atrocious when we have rain as the mud and mess gets trodden into the hall. To help rectify this problem we will give £350 towards gravelling the area. Additionally the School, Adventure Playground and Village Shop will each be given £200. We are also planning to replace one of the smaller tents. Finally, we would like to thank everyone who came to last year’s Festival and enjoyed a great day out while helping to raise money for the village.
