Our original Technology Plan laid forth our goals and strategies for using information technology and telecommunications effectively within our district, as well as our plan to assess the use of telecommunications services, the hardware and software purchased, and other services needed to deliver a technology-infused curriculum. Our original plan also described our professional development strategy, budget resources, and our ongoing evaluation process. With the addition of a Director of Technology and the growth of the district's Technology Department in subsequent years, the direction defined by our first Technology Plan was followed to achieve substantial technology growth. Our committee continues to believe that a pragmatic, systematic approach to the acquisition of technology and the subsequent training of staff and students is the direction in which Wall Township Public Schools should proceed. It is the belief of the Committee that its mission is to provide to the students and staff a wide collection of networked resources supported by a robust technology infrastructure, accompanied by ongoing training in the integration of this technology into our curriculum. The District's current state of technology has enabled the staff to infuse technology-related resources into the curriculum. Our desire is to have our curriculum drive our plan to continue to upgrade both our technology and our facilities. To that end, as we cyclically review and update our curriculum guides in any given subject area, we will incorporate the use of technology as a tool to enhance learning. Our current Technology Plan is based on past Technology Plans, modified to reflect the growth we have experienced and a desire to afford our students and staff access to new technology resources as they become available. It is the belief of the committee that our pragmatic approach to technology will enable the enclosed plan to fold seamlessly into our more global approach to the concept of teaching and learning with the aid of technology. In conclusion, this committee will continue to strive to emulate the following philosophy: If technology is only used to do things easily done without technology, technology is being misused. If technology is only used to make teachers and students more productive, technology is being underused. If technology is being used in a restructured classroom to do things otherwise difficult or impossible without the technology, it is being used in a way that can transform the way we teach and learn. 6 WALL TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2016-2019 TECHNOLOGY PLAN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY DEMOGRAPHICS Wall Township is a suburban-rural township encompassing thirty-two square miles, with a population of approximately twenty six thousand residents. The township is located in southern Monmouth County, two miles from the ocean, and in commuting distance of two major financial and cultural centers, New York and Philadelphia. VISION STATEMENT The school population consists of approximately 3,700 students in a PreK-12 configuration, with four elementary schools, a preschool program, one intermediate school, and one high school. With the aforementioned demographics being considered, it is our vision that integrating technological advancements within the framework of a seamless curriculum plays an essential role in providing a well-rounded education. We envision easily accessible resources as well as ongoing training for students, staff, and the community. We believe that it is imperative that the students of Wall Township Schools have the opportunity to compete, not only on a national level for college placement and employment, but also within the framework of a global economy. MISSION STATEMENT The Wall Township School District is a partnership of committed staff, dedicated learners, and supportive community members. Our mission is to provide meaningful educational experiences and opportunities, thereby ensuring all students achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and are prepared to become productive citizens, informed decision-makers, and life-long learners in a diverse and evolving society. BELIEF STATEMENTS The Wall Township Public School District believes that: Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual talents and needs. Acknowledging that all students can learn and do so in different ways, the district provides a variety of instructional approaches, resources, and appropriate assessments to support their learning. Teachers, administrators, students, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school system’s mission, beliefs, and goals. Our educational and extra-curricular programs enable our students to become contributing members of society by fostering the development of ethical values, knowledge, and skills. Students need to develop a deep understanding of essential knowledge and skills and also develop the capacity to apply their learning to reason, solve problems, and produce quality work. A safe and supportive learning environment is fundamental to promote student achievement. Effective communication with families as partners in the education of their children is essential to the success of our school system. Diversity enriches our school system through a variety of ideas, values, and cultures. Productive use of technology is vital to learning and helps students connect with a rapidly changing world. 7 WALL TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2016-2019 TECHNOLOGY PLAN PLANNING PROCESS STAKEHOLDERS The Wall Township Public Schools Technology Committee is comprised of a dedicated group of teachers, administrators, and community members with strong technical backgrounds, all of whom share a common vision for the infusion of technology into the curriculum.
