MV Agusta 500/4
MV Agusta 500/4 Circa 1968 By 1968 MV had won eleven 500cc World championships. Some with the triple and some with the four. Famous MV champions were Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, John Surtees, Tarquinio Provini, Carlo Ubbiali, and John Hartle. This machine was handbuilt in 820 hours between 2004 and 2008, using as many original MV parts and MV suppliers parts as possible. Only where original parts were not available, replicas were made from drawings, photos & technical information. The aim of the project was to reconstruct this rare machine capturing its essential characteristics. The machine is not a reproduction. Most parts are MV. Parts were sourced from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, NZ, the US, UK, and Australia. Finding and aquiring parts, especially the engine, frame and hubs, consumed at least 40% of the project time. It would have been impossible without the many clubs, dealers, manufacturers and knowledgeable individuals contacted. Communication, often in other languages, was by mail, `phone, fax, SMS and email. Overseas trips to suppliers in europe were conducted. Many interesting conversations were experienced in the process. There are few who have MV knowledge and the most reliable and communicative were found in Germany. The British were easily the costliest, most insular, and unco- operative. The Italians by contrast were found to be helpful, friendly, & warmly sentimental. There are apparently 15 racing 500/4`s. Some of them in the MV Samarate museum. However, as they did not reach production, only three roadgoing 500/4`s are known to exist - the one you are viewing, one in the US and, another in Germany. -

Well none were to be found – in fact not one British bike, regardless of vintage, was sighted! Bit like the editors mailbox – also nothing to be found. -

Clive joined the club on 8 December 1993, Member No. 45. Clive and his late wife, Nancy, were enthusiastic members and were always involved in club activities. Clive served as Secretary from 1998 to 2004 and was well known for his unique hand-made trophies for the Pelican Rally as well as his famous chicken and vegetable soup (although we believe that he was not the cook – just the delivery boy). Clive was made a Life Member of the club in July 2004. In recent months his health was failing and he was admitted to Opal Norah Head Nursing Home last month. His son, Brett, informed me that he had received Clive’s copy of The Flywheel and took it to him. Clive made him read it from cover to cover and sent his best wishes to all club members and to relay his appreciation for the friendship he received from members. -

This machine went on to win six world titles and remarkable racing history; winning 75 World the graceful and powerful dual overhead cam engine design Championships and over 3,000 races. We are now able to offer his 1976 MV Agusta 750S America. Daniels’ penchant for classy motorcyles has been discussed before, but this 1976 MV Agusta 750S America is probably our favorite of his bikes to come to market so far. George was apparently pretty keen on it too, as he kept the bike for 26 years at his home in the Isle of Man. The 750S America model was introduced in 1975. V.O.F. Yesterdays - www.yesterdays.nl - offi[email protected] - +31 495 54 60 54 | Page: 1 It featured blockier styling and a larger engine than previous MV 750s. MV Agusta’s glorious racing background gave rise to numerous street bikes over the years, such as the 1976 MV Agusta 750S America motorcycle. The MV Agusta 750S America motorcycle had its roots in a 500-cc racing powerplant. Weighing 507 pounds without fluids, the 750S is no lightweight, but its handling at speed belies the mass. The suede-covered racing saddle keeps the pilot in place during the kind of spirited cornering maneuvers the 750S is so well known for. Like previous MVs, the 750S America was expensive and exclusive and everyone knows Italian style and performance have never been cheap. And that goes double for motorcycles built by that most exclusive of Italy’s bike-makers, MV Agusta. -
