La Reina provides a nurturing, Catholic environment of educational excellence, focused on helping young women develop into moral and self-confident leaders, who work for the transformation of individuals and society. Students are given opportunities to foster their relationship with God, to grow intellectually, to develop their individual gifts, and to be catalysts for the promotion of justice locally, nationally and globally. GENERAL INFORMATION Established in 1964, La Reina High School is a private Catholic college preparatory school for girls in grades 7 through 12. The school is sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association. Current enrollment is 557 students with an average class size of 25. Admission of students is highly selective. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS La Reina offers a comprehensive, college preparatory program with graduation requirements that reflect the standards for admission to the University of California. Students earn five credits for each semester of study. The required number of credits in each department is given below: English 40 Foreign Language 20 Speech 5 Religion 40 Fine Arts 10 Academic Computer Skills 5 Electives 30 Mathematics 30 Science 20 Social Studies 30 Physical Education 10 HONORS DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS To earn an honors diploma, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and take 40 additional credits in upper division and Honors or AP classes. Two Honors or AP courses must be taken in grades 11 or 12. Those credits must be earned in one or more of the following departments: Social Studies, Science, Foreign Language, Mathematics, English or Fine Arts (AP only). This additional coursework must be taken at La Reina High School in grades 9 - 12.
