Thornton was a member of the staff that earned Toledo its third postseason appearance in the last six years with a trip to the 2017 College Basketball Invitational. Thornton spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach at Hargrave Military Academy. Thornton helped Hargrave post a 47-1 record en-route to capturing its third national championship.
